NTLDR:FATAL ERROR 57344 READING BOOT.INI

XP Home Edition will not boot anymore.  I get the XPWindows Logo when I boot

then shuts down to a blank screen with the following Error posted at the top of

the blank screen. 

Error:

NTLDR: FATAL ERROR 57344 READING BOOT.INI

Question:  What is this error and how do I correct it so I can get my XP Windows back.

    Will let it complete it's last stage.  Is it normal

    for it to take this long.  The computer has been running since Tuesday

    11-20-12.  Not sure if the HardDrive is failing, because that computer is

    not my primary and is not used that much.  Will keep trying if this will resolve

    the problem.

    Since this is not your regular computer I would recommend you simply re-install Windows if possible. The time you have spent with check disk you could have re-installed Windows and all your applications. You may want to test the hard drive prior to doing so.

    If you do choose to re-install I recommend doing a low level format of the hard drive with Dban or KillDisk first. Let us know how you wish to proceed and we'll instruct you.

    I have not had it last that long, but my drive id only 40gb, and I keep it defragged so mine rarely takes longer than 40 minutes.

    your length is due to the disk and system corruption.

    yes let it run as it has not finished, there are 5 stages and I believe that verifying free space is the last one.

     

    with that many problems, I believe that your hard drive may be failing.

     

    once chkdsk completes, you should really run it again, Sorry. :)
