System Restore is no longer available.

When I go to "Start" / System Restore, dialog box appears " System Restore is no longer protecting your computer. Restart and try again." I have done that several and restarted, with always the same result. How can I enable SR again?

That was the only thing i have in my notes about the SR service and that error and I did recreate it one more time here to be sure my notes made sense. I have that same error for other Services and it is usually a missing file, so usually easy to fix

Do you know if SR has worked properly since Avast has been installed?

Since your SR Service is broken, and if that is the only problem you know about, you could:

1. Export the SR Service section of your registry and send it here for analysis

2. I can export the SR Service part of my registry and send it to you for installation on your system. I have instructions for that (the SR Service is not very exciting to look at)

3. You can totally reinstall System Restore (you don't have to reinstall XP - just the SR part)

a. I have instructions for that and you do not need an XP installation CD

b. If you reinstall SR, you will lose all your current Restore Points

c. If SR doesn't work anyway, who cares about number b

Even though Avast is pretty good, I wish you would do this while you are thinking about it:

Download, install, update and do at least one full scan with these free malware detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/

SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if desired.

If those commit charge figures are typical you have resolved the problem of excessive use of the pagefile. If your computer is still slow that is no longer the problem.

Unchecking means that it will simply not load on startup. You can still manually start software. If you want to restore a programme to automatically start you just check the box before the start up item in Autoruns.

My internet connection is cable.

Download speed    2.27 Mbps

Upload speed          0.24 Mbps.   Is this one important? I don't upload anything as I don't have a website or Facebook or Twitter.

And for http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/   there are just 8 US cities to choose from, and I'm not in the US. Can it be done?

Antivirus is free Avast which I update and do every weekend.

I have both of those antiSpyware which I update and do every weekend.

In Task Manager :
1. Physical Memory - Total 96560
2. Commit Charge - Total 471084
3. Commit Charge - Limit 2220072
4. Commit Charge - Peak 473464
Pls tell me what do these items mean.

Pls also help me on a problem for which I have not got any answer in this thread:

My monitor screen is put to go off every 15 mins. But it doesn't go off at all nowadays. Adjusted it to 10 mins but it still remains on all the time. The video streaming is affected when the screen is off, which should not be the case, so I need this problem fixed so I can test the video streaming problem. Now that the screen is never off, I don't have the streaming problem.
