Windows 8 Pro cannot boot - Error 0xC000021a

Hi

I upgraded my son's laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. I has been working fine for a few weeks. But now when booting It halts iwth the error code 0xc000021a. I have tried the following options

Refresh - this fails with the error 0xc000021a

System Restore - this fails with 0xc000021a

Safe mode boot does not work

I can start the cmd console

Any suggestions as to how to proceed?

    I could not do anything with Windows 8 installed so I reset my PC  to factory settings and re-installed Windows 7, re-installed the files and apps I wanted, and am happy to have the old setup back with latest versions of IE and Chrome and a desktop. Never did understand the value of Windows 8 format on a PC.

    There's no value running 8 on a PC. I just removed all the stupid "App's" from Welcome Screen and added a Text "Start" in the left corner of the Taskbar ... no funktion, but i need this to feel good ;)

    So i'm finished installing all Updates on my Vario Laptop, incl. Windows 8.1. (My "Start" Text was replaced by a Start-Symbol to access "Welcome Screen"). No need to say, Windows 8.1 has no value on a PC too...

    So long, fu Microsoft. Please don't do this again.

    Hello I just had this happen to my 1 year old lenovo u310. I fixed it by removing the ssd turning off raid and running a refresh. it could be something with the ssd or raid controller.

    I was just about ready to rip out the components of my PC out. Don't know if you guys tryed this already, "PC Start Up Repair" did the job in 10 minutes. It's in the Advanced options along with refresh and Reset. If that does not fix your problem, IF you have another PC running Windows 8 or a friends. Create a USB Recovery Drive. You can do this with any computer running windows 8 other then the surface series if you wanted to ask. A recovery image is around 3-6 GB most of the time, but i recommend a 16GB Flash Drive at least depending what you want copied. It is very important to use a EMPTY USB, EVERYTHING WILL BE DELETED IF YOU GO THOUGH WITH THE PROCESS.

    Here are some steps for using a Recovery Drive.

    1. Find a USB that has 6+GB (Empty)
    2. Open the other PC with Windows 8 and contunue to the search side bar.
    3. Search: "Recovery Drive" and click on. "Create Recovery Drive"
    4. /!\ IMPORTANT /!\ Click the checkbox titled as: "Copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive" IS CHECKED!
    5. Before you start, Insert your empty USB if you have not already and select in in the menu. Click Next

    6.Click Create

    Your Done!

    If you ever wanted to delete the partition from your usb, go back into the same program and find the delete button and go from there. You could always use the USB as a recovery drive forever, as it should last!

    LAST NOTE: You will need to reinstall Windows 8.1 if not already installed on the PC that IS BROKEN!

    hi it was easy. after booting up with everything non essential disabled, it still didnt work. I took out one of the RAM chips and BANG she is going again. try that eh!
