Windows 8 Pro cannot boot - Error 0xC000021a

Hi

I upgraded my son's laptop from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro. I has been working fine for a few weeks. But now when booting It halts iwth the error code 0xc000021a. I have tried the following options

Refresh - this fails with the error 0xc000021a

System Restore - this fails with 0xc000021a

Safe mode boot does not work

I can start the cmd console

Any suggestions as to how to proceed?

    Ideally, the drive or dvd must be ≥4GB because windows 8 ISO files have around 3-4GB size. DVD±R/RW have 4.7GB size and thumbdrives and sd cards have sizes in powers of 2, e.g. 1/2/4/8/16 GB etc. I have a 8GB thumbdrive and I am downloading the iso file now

    I have a Windows 8.1 Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro that has been having this problem for about 3 weeks now. I believe it was due to an interrupted system update. I originally solved it by performing a system restore to a restore point from before said update. However, Windows eventually deleted that point automatically (should've disabled that. Whoops). Now, the only solution I have that works is to first revert the pending update from command prompt using 

    dism.exe /image:C:\ /cleanup-image /revertpendingactions

    and then booting with driver signatures disabled.

    However, this is unfathomably annoying to have to do every 5 days or so every time the system updates, as well as possibly risk-posing since my computer can't install any windows updates whatsoever. If anyone has any idea how to resolve this issue permanently, it would be greatly appreciated, but this solution at least renders my computer at least somewhat usable again.
