All the other apps work fine, and when the app opens it shows the loading screen and that is it.  It is not a resolution issue and it is very disappointing because there are many apps that i haven't installed yet. Do you know whats wrong and a solution to fix this issue? please help.

Hi Little_Diablo,

Welcome to Windows 8 Community!

From your issue description I understand that you are unable to open Windows 8 Store App. We have got some troubleshooting steps in order to resolve the issue.

This issue might happen because of some updates in the app.

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Method 1:

Download and run the Modern UI App troubleshooter and check.

Method 2: Check if the Date, time and Time zone is set correct.

Follow the steps to set the date and time:

a. Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.

b. Type “Date and Time” in the charms bar search.

c. Click Change date and time button.

d. Click Apply and Ok to save the date and time.

Note: Click on the Time Zone tab to check the Time Zone.

Method 3: If you are using any Proxy connection, then try disabling the proxy connection

a. Click the Gearbox at the top right corner in internet explorer.

b. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

c. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.

e) Check “Automatically detect settings.”

f)  Uncheck use a proxy server for your LAN.

Method 4: Check the Windows Firewall Settings

a)      Type in Control Panel on the Start Page.

b)      On the left side, click Control Panel.

c)      Click on Windows Firewall.

d)      On the left pane, click on "Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall".

e)      Under the Allowed apps and features, look for Store.

f)       Make sure you have a click in Private and or Public.

g)      Then see if you can open the Windows Store.

If you have a 3rd party Firewall, you may need to change the settings to allow the app through the Firewall.

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you are done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 5: What to do if you have problems with an app

Carol, Please leave your windows store related query here, -the problem is centred round the changed architecture of win8 and win 10, and the bugs therein. Microsoft developers in prob resolution group and its customers will benefit best if this particular problem  is at the centre of the various windows versions that use the new GUI&architecture.

For the ordinary user (generally non windows C developer) there is no means of tracing back exactly what change caused the failure and therefore how to surgically roll it back. To do this you would need to have windows in a VM running in debug mode and every change would have to go through the same formal procedures that software development companies have, i.e. plan, apply on test machine, see if it works, if not trace the binary and registry changes using binary chop to find the problem. This can take days or weeks and only of real use to Microsoft in fixing bugs.

    For general end user/ customers

the only tool available is a crude but effective one which is to use restore points to restore to the last known good position. That's what I did to restore my windows store function. Please note that win10 store apps are dependent on microsoft edge to work, and if you have changed your windows to default to another browser version the apps will likely fail, including windows store app.

If all else fails carefully backup and plan your re-install strategy, including making sure you have all your application media and windows media ready to completely rebuild and then take a really good backup followed by regular follow up backups so you never have to suffer this again.

Having been there I know how frustrating this must feel but going back to a known good restore point or backup is the only recovery method that worked for me.

Hope it works for you and you are able to successfully rollback.

    Thanks, Josh,

I had suspected that there was no other solution than a reinstall, but posted my query as a last resort, hoping I was wrong. Thank you for the confirmation. Since I have no patience left for such a task, I'll just take it to my local shop and let the geek do it for me.
