The windows 8 store app wont open on my new laptop. All the other apps work fine, and when the app opens it shows the loading screen and that is it.  It is not a resolution issue and it is very disappointing because there are many apps that i haven't installed yet. Do you know whats wrong and a solution to fix this issue? please help.

Hi Little_Diablo,

Welcome to Windows 8 Community!

From your issue description I understand that you are unable to open Windows 8 Store App. We have got some troubleshooting steps in order to resolve the issue.

This issue might happen because of some updates in the app.

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

Method 1:

Download and run the Modern UI App troubleshooter and check.

Method 2: Check if the Date, time and Time zone is set correct.

Follow the steps to set the date and time:

a. Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.

b. Type “Date and Time” in the charms bar search.

c. Click Change date and time button.

d. Click Apply and Ok to save the date and time.

Note: Click on the Time Zone tab to check the Time Zone.

Method 3: If you are using any Proxy connection, then try disabling the proxy connection

a. Click the Gearbox at the top right corner in internet explorer.

b. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

c. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.

e) Check “Automatically detect settings.”

f)  Uncheck use a proxy server for your LAN.

Method 4: Check the Windows Firewall Settings

a)      Type in Control Panel on the Start Page.

b)      On the left side, click Control Panel.

c)      Click on Windows Firewall.

d)      On the left pane, click on "Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall".

e)      Under the Allowed apps and features, look for Store.

f)       Make sure you have a click in Private and or Public.

g)      Then see if you can open the Windows Store.

If you have a 3rd party Firewall, you may need to change the settings to allow the app through the Firewall.

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you are done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 5: What to do if you have problems with an app

Now here is the problem. All of us who are legitimate Windows 8 license owners, cannot download and install the FREE Upgrade due to the fact that it is only available through the Windows Store, which we cannot access because of the problem we are experiencing. So, here we are, in a vicious circle ...........

I'm with you on this one - we are entitled to the upgrade and it is not as if the store tile problem suddenly popped up overnight, it has been an issue for months and none of the suggested fixes work and the only advice they can give is to "refresh" and that is a path many of us do not wqant to go down for very obvious reasons.... ( does MS really think we only have just Windows on our workstations?)

This is like being given a new car but neglecting to give us the key to start it.

Thanks for the tip but I do not have McAfee installed. I uninstalled all "Security Software" except for Windows Defender. Still the problem is there. I am glad that it worked for you though.

Me and and 25 of my colleagues at work who have installed Windows 8 are having exactly the same problem. I have had it for several months now, without a feasible solution in sight (there is no way I will restart again from scratch). Windows 8 is very buggy and their technical support staff have no clue about how to resolve these issue. One of my colleagues which has MSDN subscriptions, downloaded and upgraded his Windows 8 Laptop to Windows 8.1 and the problem was fixed automatically by installing the new 8.1 version. This is the only solution to this problem that I have heard of, so far. Just to make it clear, upgrading to Windows 8.1 migrates ALL your files and setups so you do not loose or have to reinstall anything .... not to mention that 8.1 is a more acceptable Windows version than the actual Windows 8 (I wouldn't call it great ... just more tolerable).

Now here is the problem. All of us who are legitimate Windows 8 license owners, cannot download and install the FREE Upgrade due to the fact that it is only available through the Windows Store, which we cannot access because of the problem we are experiencing. So, here we are, in a vicious circle ........... Hence, here is a QUESTION FOR "PA Bear MS MVP" ...... is there any other way besides the Windows Store to download the Windows 8.1 FREE UPGRADE ?? .... I hope Microsoft (which should be renamed to BrittleSoft) either Fixes this problem or provides us with an alternative way to download and install the 8.1 upgrade. Given that this issue is being ignored by Microsoft (BrittleSoft), I will give it a week to see if Microsoft (BrittleSoft) provides a solution to this problem by either fixing the Windows Store App or by making the downloadable upgrade available through a different link. Otherwise, I will resort to an underground semi-pirate solution. That is, getting a legal copy of Windows 8.1, for which I would not be technically entitled to and install it. Nothing wrong with that since we are being negligently denied the access to an upgrade for which we have the legitimate right to procure.

I encourage all of you who are still having this problem to check this forum within the next days. I will let you know of a solution and how to get it .... Possibly via e-mail. Good Luck.
