I HATE Windows 8. This is the worst OS ever invented.

What have you got against installing a third party start menu?

 

If Windows 8 had the aero interface, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between it and Windows 7.  

When you buy a new computer with a new OS AND you have to start by installing a third party start menu.. that's bad.. that's very bad Mike Hall MVP! And if you don't see that, then we must say that THAT is what is wrong with Microsoft!

Because the start menu was (is) one of the essenses of the new Win 8 system... they made it different and the difference starts with the startup-screen and the startup menu... if people want to change that very function instantly--and I read a lot of "I hate Win 8" and nearly all complain about that--then there is something very wrong with the IDEA of the Win 8 startup and menu... the very thing that VISIBLY makes it a Win 8. The fact that it maybe faster or whatever is not visible... what is visible matters more that what's behind... it's like if you put a Bentley engine into a Hunday body or a Hunday engine into a Bentley body... which would you want to drive around with downtown with your friends?

Why'd you buy a Windows 8 system without knowing what you were getting?  Windows 7 systems have NOT gone off the market that I know of.  :-)  You can go to a multitude of stores and try out the systems before deciding to buy one.  The internet is FULL of posts in both directions (for and against whatever you may want to research) - so you could look there.

It comes down to you either liking or disliking the new Windows OS and what *you* want to do/are willing to do to either run it or not.  All it takes is a little forethought.

People rarely go to the trouble to sign onto a web forum to say they love something, but when they are upset, people will go to great lengths to make sure everyone they can knows why.

So, just because you see more posts about changing the Start Menu because said group of people dislike it that much doesn't mean there isn't possibly an equal or greater number that have no need of the change to the classic view.

It's not even like this argument is new.  Windows XP caused it, Windows Vista/7 caused it and likely it will come up again.  There were purists in the Apple world that did not like all the changes from OS6-9 to OS X.  There's definitely people in the linux world that prefer one 'flavor' or 'interface' of essentially the same core OS over another.  Old argument, same basic answer.  There is no 100% right or 100% wrong when it comes to individual preferences - especially surrounding look and feel - 7 billion people, 7 billion possible opinions.

It's "Hyundai", by the way.  Not everyone likes the way any "Bentley" model might look - but they may like the way the engines run (may not, as well - also a different need/opinion possibility there) - so there likely are many people who would love to have a Bentley engine in a Hyundai body because they like the look of the Hyundai and don't (possibly) even care about the engine.  As for the other way - same thing.  After all - you get people who modify the external look of vehicles all the time so they *look like* a vehicle they could not afford (often spending way too much money they can't even really afford to do so.)

So - while I can appreciate your opinion that you do not like the interface and/or you don't think you should have to change the interface in any way so that you like it... Others will (and do) feel differently.

I personally almost set out to not like Windows 8.  It was a dramatic and obvious change from the 'norm' I was surrounded with.  However, on the right system - I find it a wonderful and almost addictive interface.  Having said that, I can see where on an older system - one not built around Windows 8 - it could quickly be annoying and overbearing.  My solution: I don't use it or recommend it on such systems.
