Move your mouse to the lower right hand corner and icons (charms) will emerge.

Select the lower one which looks like a gear.

A settings menu will appear with a power button near the bottom.

This will allow you to shut down.

Could they make it any more non-intuitive and difficult to find? Ridiculous.

Alternatively (and preferably, in my view) download and install the
free Classic Shell (or even better, the $4.99 Start8), which will put
back the Start Orb and Start menu. Then you can shut down (and do
almost everything else) just as you did in Windows 7.

Thanks for the info.  Just loaded Start8 and it's the best $5 I've ever spent.  I've been looking for an apt like that but for some reason I didn't find it.  Thanks again.

ok here's the new slogan for Microsoft once they address that windows 8 is a failure for mouse and keyboard users.   "retro from metro".

Really Ken, Like flying a airplane?.  This should not be as difficult or many hours required to learn how to fly.  Stupid answers just mean you don't have a valid answer.

Windows 8 may be ok for touch screen.  My monitor is on the wall, Do I really have to get up every time walk across the room and touch the screen?

I like touch screen for my smart phone.  I like keyboard and mouse for my computer.

Ken please feel free to make your childish comment's about my response.

No sense addressing the real issue.

Windows 8 failed for keyboard and mouse.  Please make a "classic toggle option"

Spyderwebmaster I like the "retro from metro" slogan.

I wanted to offer the rhyming slogan "I HATE WINDOWS EIGHT"

To be honest, I don't hate Windows 8, I just don't like the directions that Microsoft is going with there operating systems.

I can live with the "Start screen", even if I prefer a normal menu.  But I like the "right click in the left had corner", can we add our programs to this menu list?

But what really scares me is these "Modern" apps (previously "Metro Apps"). They don't run in Windows.  I like the OS called "Windows" because it uses Windows for having multiple (not one, or two) applications but "multiple", and I can change their window's size and shape. Microsoft, "Please do not convert Windows to Metro/Modern style OS, have both if you must but don't through away "Windows".   Sadly I believe this decision has already been made, and I have lost. Maybe if enough people complain then Microsoft will rethink this direction.  Maybe I am one of the few how don't like the lost of Window'ed applications.

So my request is, please allow Metro/Modern Apps to also be undocked into resizable Windows.

Metro Apps like Mail and Calendar should realise that Exchange Servers existed a long time before they did, and lots of people use Exchange email so please allow us to attach to Microsoft's Exchange servers.

Why is it that Windows 8 cannot maintain a WiFi and/or VPN connection very long before it drops out?  (Maybe it is the hardware in the new Windows 8 Tablet that I have been using?)

I noticed that when the Tablet comes out of sleep, it will reconnect the WiFi, it would be great if the VPN would also reconnect (if it had been configured to do so).

Why does Microsoft have to fill our lives with so much frustration...
