Games For Windows Live Update Problem (Error: 80070643)

Hi,

Just installing this month's updates, and I'm having a problem installing one of them. Games For Windows Software 3.5 doesn't seem to want to update and is giving the error code 80070643. Had a quick search round and can't seem to find anything useful. Not sure what's causing this. Anybody else having this issue?

    Folks, this issue has already been solved.  Please read the thread, it is no longer necessary to post logs.

    For those of you lacking the attention span to read:

    This is an issue with the update.  It is not your computer. The update tries to install a version of Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant that is older than the one currently on your PC, so the install fails and rolls back.  The update has been removed from Windows Update, and will presumably be corrected, and offered again.

    If you do not wish to see the update, stop the Windows Update service using Administrative Tools--->Services, then delete the "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" folder, and restart the service.

    For you trolls who just cannot resist stating that you are too smug or cool to use Windows or the software, 2010 called, they want their lines back.  Get a life.

    Yes that did work but it also wipes out your whole update history. I took a gamble and would have rather left my update history intact. Do you know how to get it back. Sorry some of us are not as sharp as you apparently!

    You might be able to restore the update history by restoring the datastore database. 

    The Datastore.edb is used to keep a history of updates.

    If you want to try, here are some steps:

    1. Open Computer
    2. Open the C: drive (the drive that has your Windows folder)
    3. Open the SoftwareDistribution folder
    4. Open the DataStore folder
    5. Locate, and right click on DataStore.edb, then select "Restore Previous Versions"
    6. If you have a previous version of the file, you can try to copy it back the DataStore folder.  You wll need to overwrite the current DataStore.edb file.
