Try completely uninstalling "Windows Live Essentials". I did and the update worked finally.
Games For Windows Live Update Problem (Error: 80070643)
Hi,
Just installing this month's updates, and I'm having a problem installing one of them. Games For Windows Software 3.5 doesn't seem to want to update and is giving the error code 80070643. Had a quick search round and can't seem to find anything useful. Not sure what's causing this. Anybody else having this issue?

2012-03-13T22:50:59+00:00 It worked for me also, but if you reinstall anything essential related, it offers you the untested buggy update again!
which fails... again, even though it is showing as previously installed in update log!
why not leave it broken like msn online tv?

2012-03-13T23:11:44+00:00 Thanks but it does not seem to work for some and I think Microsoft should be able to fix this. Thanks anyway

2012-03-13T23:35:53+00:00 I've been messing with this all afternoon and I'm ready to pull my hair out.
I've tried all of the things everyone has suggested and the problem still persists.
Hopefully MS will sort this out and release an update to correct it

2012-03-14T00:46:28+00:00 Thanks for trying francisrossi. But the log files does not appear to be the right one. However, you are looking at the correct location, but it's the wrong log file. This log files is related to the Fixit tool that you install and ran recently. Do you have another log file that is recent?
Regards,
Kim
That's the only log file I can find there.
