what is runtime broker, and why does it use so much memory?

come on Microsoft!!!  What's the solution here???

So this is what has worked for me on Windows 10.  I removed all the live tiles in the start menu, and then resized the window to looks like the Windows 7 start menu.  I then manually removed all the Windows 10 Metro Apps using a list of commands  for Windows powershell in administrator mode.  I Googled "Remove Windows 10 Metro Apps" to get the list of commands.  There are a few embedded Apps that just can't be removed.  I then ended Runtime Broker in the task manager.  Now, from time to time, it will pop up for a second or 2 and then disappear again.  It does not show up after boot anymore.

I am still in the testing faze of this, but I may have a solution to the start menu hangs and freezes many of us have been seeing.  It is often after 12+ hours of operation before I see this problem.  I only made it 12.5 hours after trying this fix before I had to restart my computer for an update that showed up for AVG, so I can't say for sure that this works.  But I think it may be strong progress to fix this problem.

Before doing this, I strongly suggest that you create a restore point.

Copy everything after start and before end.

Open notepad and paste it.  Then save the file to your desktop as "Startmenufix.reg"

Double click on the file and it will run automatically.  After it finishes, restart your computer.

I'm not having too much problem. I'm using Windows 10. Hope you guys will solve this.

With windows 10 taskmanager:

1. Windows shell experience-host is visible with runtime broker using resources.
2. Edge browser is visible with multiple runtime broker processes using resources. edge was closed, not on taskbar very sneaky.

in taskmanager:

i selected shell experience host, clicked finish it, having trouble typing this.

after a while it returned resources 0% in taskmanager.

also i clicked on edge and finished it and all the processes and the multiple runtime brokers among them,

all are finished until edge browser is reopened in taskbar.

I have exactly the same problem. This is a short term temporary solution. The problem comes back as soon as the computer is restarted.
