what is runtime broker, and why does it use so much memory?

Please don't post rubbish. Of course processes shouldn't be using a page file when there is plenty of RAM available, that would be a hopelessly slow way to implement an operating system. Furthermore, it won't do any physical damage to your RAM. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

If i have 2GBs ddr2 memory and Runtime broker is using 1.6.gbs,then i do not see this and continue to start windows media center(which uses as much as 1GB) ; My computer will CRASH Right? 1GB plus 1.6GB=2.6 and i only have 2GBS!     YES it will hurt the Ram as i have seen it happen in many crashed computers.the Harddrive and cpu etc .are ok but memory can not withstand overuse just as an overclocked cpu will eventually deteriorate check the site MSFN and ask them, they know more than a lot of experts know.These experts are creating our dreams here and i hope they will fix this memory overload before it gets worse.Windows XP had a simular problem when upgrading to Windows Vista . So lets get the complaints and arguments together before we say it isn't this or that!This was my true opinion as i have 4-FOUR Computers with Win8Pro running all with different amounts of ram,harddrives and motherboards,3 have mediacenter and 1 does not run it as the Dell4700 bios will not accept NX features .i have seen personally that Apps do ,do damage to memory through uncontrolled highusage from improperly written code.Where do you think a virus came from?I guess i just don't know :}thankyou; Research,Test and Focus makes a good App.

Most of what you have written looks like incoherent rambling to me but to address your first point: what would happen if you have 2 GB RAM and you are already using 1.6GB then open another application that wants to use 1 GB RAM? Some of the date residing in your physical memory would simply be paged out to your hard disk. (remember the page file / virtual memory you mentioned in your previous post?).

Furthermore, RAM usage can in no way be compared to overclocking your CPU because you are not changing the frequency at which it operates.

You should also bear in mind that what we are discussing in this thread is a process that appears not to release RAM back to the OS for use by other applications. This does not mean that it is actively writing to and reading from your RAM, just that the memory it has claimed is not being made available to other programs.

If you really want to help other PC users, refrain from posting technically inaccurate, conspiracy theory nonsense on this forum. I don't care if you have 400 PCs running Windows 8, you clearly know very little about either software or hardware.

Re. MSFN. I just checked it out and the site doesn't seem to have been updated for the last three months - not really what I am looking for in a tech news site thanks.

Windows 8 went on sale October 26th and MSFN's last news article was on August 24th! Are they all asleep?

last week all nights passed with trying to learn win 8 , so i installed many apps , tried many drivers  for my hardware and installed all my standart casual dektop softwares if there are some problems with them to decide immadiate switch to win 8 or to stay on win 7  till the sp1 is out there for win 8.

At least 5 others applications show the same problem. and a couple of them uses much more memory than win7. and after shuttin down a software either app or desktop one they release the momry back maybe 20 30 seconds later than win 7 does.

never seen a bsod but 3 times Windows shut down all the Windows both in desktop and metro. all desktop become black except a Mouse pointer and right click menus and it never responded to ctrl alt del , or shutdown button , so i forcedly shut down my computer

so i decideed to keep win 8 on my laptop which is connected to a big plasma tv  and win 8 is great with this type of computing. but its not ready for desktop yet.

at first sight i was fascinated by the new os but , Microsoft is still Microsoft , animation glitches  memory problems, the still unfixed and even worse and more  translation mistakes in my language turkish...  

its been 20 years since i first met Microsoft, i was a child then and now a proffesor in medicine i even changed a lot but ms ? ?  still cant make an os a little bit bug free ? ??  !!!
