what is runtime broker, and why does it use so much memory?

in task manager there is process called Runtime Broker. and it uses over 600 MB of my ram. putting my average usage at 60% on my 4 gig laptop. not noticed any performance issues yet. just a lot memory being used. makes me think of windows vista almost bc it had same issue in past. it would use all system resources.

2012-11-04T23:14:25+00:00 I'm just using Defnder that comes with Windows 8 since it effectively incorporates Microsoft Security Essentials which is what I used with Windows 7. It always seemed to work well and I'm not a high risk user for viruses... and I'm getting the same Runtime Broker memory error. I used the 90-day trial version for a couple months and never saw it until I bought the $40.00 Pro upgrade.

Eric - Re. testing before being allowed in the Store, I agree with you but I seem to remember reading somewhere that their testing does not cover issues such as this one. It should do though, and this app should be pulled from the store ASAP.

I thInk around 90% of the people who have windows 8 have installed this time app, and all of them may be facing this problem!
Anyways it's hopefully solved now thanks to you guys and I guess I owe an apology to you Mark. You went through quite of a problem with Norton as a result of my interpretation. Sorry. :)

2012-11-01T08:22:19+00:00 I concur with these findings. Since removing that Time Metro App by Jeff Key the problem has gone away. How on earth did this app get through Microsoft's stringent testing for these apps?
