what is runtime broker, and why does it use so much memory?

in task manager there is process called Runtime Broker. and it uses over 600 MB of my ram. putting my average usage at 60% on my 4 gig laptop. not noticed any performance issues yet. just a lot memory being used. makes me think of windows vista almost bc it had same issue in past. it would use all system resources.

Seems like win8 games/apps running for long time are keeping their state and claiming memory. I closed all metro apps & games then killed runtime broker from task manager. Things came back to normalcy.

Recently Upgraded from Win 8 to Win 8.1.

Facing several issues. this RuntimeBroker on part of it.

Very Very High Disk usage, very high Memory Usage, sometimes I just regret upgrading :(

Microsoft!!!!!!! Please fix it, whatever it is!!!!!

Sorry I never got a notification about your post so I didn't see it. I am sure you have already sorted out your issues but if you read the rest of the thread, you'll see that Norton wasn't the culprit (not on my system anyway). It did seem to make the problem worse but it was the Clock app that turned out to be causing the problem for me.

To be fair, it had absolutely nothing to do with Norton Antivirus so it's not a very good reason for you not to use any.
