what is runtime broker, and why does it use so much memory?

This problem NEEDS to be fixed YESTERDAY! I am almost tempted to go back to Windows 7, Because of this problem. RuntimeBroker.exe will consume anywhere between 2mb - 2gb out of 4 gbs of RAM even when I havent opened any "Windows Apps" after startup! It can consume as much as 2 gbs in a day easy, And is REALLY annoying having to CONSTANTLY go into task manager to kill the process, or it gets out of control. I rarely use any of the apps, even though I installed a bunch of the free games, And I do not have the app "the time" installed, So it must be other Apps causing this too. I do not use any other sort of virus software, besides Windows Defender, So that has nothing to do with it. Microsoft needs to fix this NOW, Or remove the apps that are causing the problems from the store and fix them,or update the problematic ones, Or no one will want to install windows 8!

i couldnt understand from your post the Word "you" is prular or singular so i want to explain that i dont agree with edwindwight. I surely can understand your explanations technically and approve that ill keep posting as i find any other software causes this problem in what way  thats all i can help right now.

Re. MSFN. I just checked it out and the site doesn't seem to have been updated for the last three months - not really what I am looking for in a tech news site thanks.

 

Windows 8 went on sale October 26th and MSFN's last news article was on August 24th! Are they all asleep?

The website is not asleep but quite wide awake and writing code while others answer forums and sleep.MSFN is a forum too and useful information  for all programers and users can be found in archives from the last 5 years.i'll find a code programmer to fix the runtime issue so we all won't lose any more precious time watching our memory-ram skyrocket.thanks, for new information i'll render it to some proficient experts.

Sorry, but your views on memory usage are not 'true', they are ridiculous. You think that if you are running applications that require more RAM than is installed on your machine that the machine will crash...this illustrates a lack of understanding re. Windows and page files.

I am not disputing that you may have experienced problems on your PCs but apart from the one memory issue (which this thread is supposed to be about by the way - it's not supposed to be a platform for people to **** about Windows 8), I have had no problems since upgrading.

Applications usage of RAM will absolutely not damage it in any way. I suggest you study harder if you are still learning.

i am still learning, but my views and experiences are true about memory usage and cpu overheats and causes problems on older computers(2006-2010).i test apps daily and agree that win8 is great but not as smooth as win7.touch is new and it works on tablets and laptops ,but the system needs a different interface for desktop computers,please :}i agree with Ahmet comment;thank you.
