Windows 8 PC Reset. Taking toooo long.

Now I understand this will take a long time but I did NOT plan for it to take this long. When I upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 8 the format and upgrade only took 15 minutes. I was having some pc issues and said Hey! How about I use this new reset feature and start over again. WORST MISTAKE EVER! I have no clue what this is doing but this is taking forever. So far this thing moves up 6% every hour. It's been 3 hours now and it's still on 16% Can you all tell me what is this thing doing or is this some sort of error? My hard-drive size is 1TB clean and around 900gb when a OS is installed.

    Really... why is this taking so long? I got the "upgrade offer" last October in my email and when I purchased the Key, downloaded the ISO, burn to disc and performed the upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8, it took less than one hour to do all that. A couple of month later, I had to upgraded hard drive, when I tried to install Windows 8 from scratch onto the new HHD, I was prompted by an onscreen message that my Key can only for an upgrade installation. So, I decided to install Windows 7 then perform the Windows 8 update, worked well and took about two hours to complete all that.

    Yesterday I ran into some problems again and decide to try the reset function because I thought two hours is way too long for me... What the **** was I thinking... it is been five hours and some minutes and now the PC resetting is at 60%. If I'd known it was going to this long, I would have done the Windows 7 installation then the Windows 8 Upgrade. Microsoft, I love Windows dearly but the problems and lack of help from you is giving me reason to switch to another operating system.

    Shawna,  I can sympathize with your frustration.  My Sony VAIO has been resetting for four hours and it is only at 47%.  So it's not HP or Sonys fault.  It is Microsofts fault.

    Not to worry. My laptop is so awesome, by Samsung, and runs i3, 500GB HDD, 3 hrs. later, a fair 59%.

    Least your reinstalling of the OS is GOING SOMEWHERE. Worth the time.

    Just don't worry about it. It's Microsoft's trick up its sleve being so laggy.

    I'm just learning about this crazy reset time.... Holy Cow! 6 - 9 hours seems to be the average? Thankfully I hit this on a client's PC resetting my Linux box takes 15 minutes and that includes drivers, and most of the software I use including an office suite and video codecs.

    Ridiculous. I'm at 66% after almost 7 hours on a "RESET"; not to be confused with a "REFRESH".

    What is the deal here? Does it have to d/l the entire thing? I want to test to find out but I don't want to unplug the internet cable and fudge everything up (and have to start over).

    Is everyone using the "disc-less" method? Or are people experiencing the same time with a disc in the tray?
