i purchased the HDD with equal specifications as the one installed i worked dell tech commercial end for laptops so i am not novice with computers repairs. I do however take issue with embedding the product id . I own an acer aspire and have read numerous issues with recovery and restore when the hdd corrupts after windows 10 updates. It did update to windows 10 back in February and I restored it back to windows 8. I had it tweaked and running the way I wanted and then again windows 10 did its update and it blue screened.
I have not been able to recover or restore since this happened in march. I have disabled the windows 10 update on this computer since I found there are many bugs that need addressing before I will ever consider using windows 10.
back to my acer hdd. purchased a new one and it remains unrecognized when connected to the acer laptop. old one has major corruption. although testing claims that the recovery partition is still excellent condition.. the remainder has overlapping partitions and in very bad condition..
I will most likely have to pay to get a recovery program as I do not have time to recall dos command prompts since i haven't used them for 10 years I am getting too old to take a refresher course with all that life throws at me ..
regarding windows 8.1 and windows 8 pro are you stating that if i am to install windows I should be using windows 8 pro. and will the product key allow me to install it and or do i need the product key.i did manage to retrieve the product key off the hdd .. i am not well versed on the newer end of technology seems it advanced and I was sleeping.. so i am not as advanced on current tech..
thanks LAD
