Now I understand this will take a long time but I did NOT plan for it to take this long. When I upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 8 the format and upgrade only took 15 minutes. I was having some pc issues and said Hey! How about I use this new reset feature and start over again. WORST MISTAKE EVER! I have no clue what this is doing but this is taking forever. So far this thing moves up 6% every hour. It's been 3 hours now and it's still on 16% Can you all tell me what is this thing doing or is this some sort of error? My hard-drive size is 1TB clean and around 900gb when a OS is installed.

It's do the fact you have that much data on hard drive that it's taking so long. right out of the box mine crashed. It was an open box e bay purchase so no refund given. and not worth trouble so trying to fix it after 2 hrs in reset on 8GB of Memory and a 3.6 A6 processor and only windows on disk it.s at 20 percent. So 2 times 5. 10 hrs **** I will be back at work by the times it's done.
This is crazy, My window 8 crashed on 2nd boot up. Ii when to Microsoft got help with a ISO software. Down loaded it and copied it. first time coping an ISO file so that took two disks to get right. Now doing a reset. on 17% after 2hrs. I thought I might have a bad Hard drive. Thanks for this post I didn't throw hard drive in the trash. But I work night and I'm going to bed. Maybe when I get up it will be done. Thanks everyone that put info on here.

Mine was really slow until 30% or so. It took about 5 or 5 1/2 hours. Then it spead up. Total reset took 6.5 hours. Just let it go, it sucks but it will do it's own thing and it will do it right.

I'm writing this on my mom's laptop. I have a 4 day old HP Envy dv7 laptop and it had windows 8, nothing but trouble out of the box. Can't download or install updates stuck at 0%, did the whole hour long trying to configure updates then reverting, had sound working then hp said to update that so I did, restarted the computer tonight and no sound at all and said I had to redo all the hp updates I did. I started a factory restore planning to start blank again (4 day old f'in computer) and then to try and install the updates from there thinking that by some miracle netfilx, world of warcraft or Skype by some ungodly means messed up my new computer. I started the factory restore process at 9pm E.S.T. it is now 4:11 am E.S.T. 7 hours and 11 minutes later and all I see on the screen is "windows is resetting your computer" and it's only at 22%, I have never been so irritated with something before in my life. How can Microsoft get away with putting a non-working product on the shelf?
At 10%, it will probably be done tomorrow at 9:00 PM, it is 2:44 PM right now
I, ve tried so many times but its still like that. So, i decide to computer shop and ask them what's the problem and they said the hard disk is broken and u need to change it ( buy new one)
I paid for 125$ AUD for hard disk 1 TB
And u need to install all again like a new computer and not going to become factory setting cause its different hard disk
