Windows Installer and Error Codes 641 & 80070641 Issues

something has happened to the windows installer on my computer. I have vista home premium 32 bit. I tried searching your site to download the installer but I could not find anything. I tried installing Java and it said it couldnt because the windows installer could not be accessed. and I have been trying to install some windows updates and keep getting error message codes 640 & 80070641. everything was working up until a few days ago when I tried updating nothing has been downloaded to my computer prior to errors.

In addition to Ravinath P suggestion dated on May 21, 2012, you may also follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

I suggest you to perform the following steps to rebuild the windows installer service.

Note: To do so: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. c. Click on Start.

d. Type regedit in the Start Search field and hit enter.

e. On the registry edit windows click onFile and select Import.

f. Browse to the location where reset.reg file is located and select the file.

g. Click ok at the on-screen windows once the registry is merged successfully.

h. Restart the computer and check if updates installs.

    Hi

    I don't know if you still have access to this forum, but if you do, I would be grateful for your help.

    I have XP Home SP3 and cannot update .NET Frame from MS. used a prog to cleand them all out but still get errors saying that updates were not successful. First my problem was with 1.1. meanwhile installed Vodafone dongle that installed 2.0. WU is trying to install 3.5 without success. Meanwhile, I am not sure if I should try to reinstall what I had before: 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0. But how?

State your current IE version and full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; WinXP 64-bit SP2; Vista 32-bit SP1; Vista 64-bit SP2; Win7 32-bit; Win7 32-bit SP1; Win7 64-bit; Win7 64-bit SP1) in your first post.     Worked perfectly....

    Just on the safe side, always to a export of the registry before you import anything...
