Windows Installer and Error Codes 641 & 80070641 Issues

something has happened to the windows installer on my computer. I have vista home premium 32 bit. I tried searching your site to download the installer but I could not find anything. I tried installing Java and it said it couldnt because the windows installer could not be accessed. and I have been trying to install some windows updates and keep getting error message codes 640 & 80070641. everything was working up until a few days ago when I tried updating nothing has been downloaded to my computer prior to errors.

In addition to Ravinath P suggestion dated on May 21, 2012, you may also follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps.

I suggest you to perform the following steps to rebuild the windows installer service.

Note: To do so: Important this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. c. Click on Start.

d. Type regedit in the Start Search field and hit enter.

e. On the registry edit windows click onFile and select Import.

f. Browse to the location where reset.reg file is located and select the file.

g. Click ok at the on-screen windows once the registry is merged successfully.

h. Restart the computer and check if updates installs.

    Since the updates were successfully installed, you may right click on the update and choose hide update.

    You don't have worry about it.

    Thank you Job,

    This fix solved my problem and after rebooting my system (Vista 32 bit) the 11 updates were installed  successfully.  I then disabled System Mechanic's registry tool and my system is working fine.

    Thank you for your response.

    Mine is Vista and all those updates were installed successfully in the history. I installed updates, successfully,  restarted, and those updates shown up again and again. Yup! I checked the update history all shown successful installation.
