You MUST use the 32-bit version of IE9 - not the 64-bit version.
If you're having problem then, check validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag and www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
From the following WEB page http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/exe-validation.aspx?id=29156 I downloaded GenuineCheck.exe as required.
However on executing the program I got the following error message
"This version of the Windows Genuine Advantage tool is no longer supported. Please download the newest version and ensure that your system clock is accurate"
Downloaded a copy from Microsoft but the tool requires Windows XP to load.
Is there a Windows 7 version?
So where do I get a copy of the latest version?

Windows Update will ONLY offer Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) as an Optional update when its detection engine cannot identify a valid anti-virus application installed on the computer; cf. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2267621
That being said and assuming Win7 (64-bit) Service Pack 1 (SP1)...
Please answer each of the following [admittedly tedious]diagnostic questions in a correspondingly-numbered list in your very next reply (no need to quote this post):
1a. When (approx. date) did you purchase the computer?
1b. Did Win7 64-bit come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it, did you do a clean install of Win7, or did you upgrade from Vista to Win7?
1c. What problems were you having that led you to download/run GenuineCheck.exe?

I have since loaded Java 7 Update 5.
You MUST use IE for these downloads - Firefox barfs on the ActiveX controls required for proper validation.
Noel,
I have tried IE9 which asks to install the activeX, I tell it to install, and then nothing happens. I have tried using the Alternate option in IE9 which gives me the validation check download and the subsequent failure for running on Windows7.
I concluded that the installation of the ActiveX is failing since re-visiting the same page prompts again for the re-install of the ActiveX. I figured since one was only for Windows XP, the ActiveX may be as well.
There are too many people experiencing the same thing in a small amount of time for this to be a coincidence. Many of us are veterans with over two decades of professional computer experience. We are writing here not because we forgot to turn our monitor on, but because something is wrong with your site.
Please let someone know so they can get it fixed.

[1] McAfee (and Norton) applications are notorious for not uninstalling or upgrading cleanly.
[2] Injudicious use of Registry cleaners may be playing a role here, as well. TIP: If you ever again think your Registry needs to be cleaned, repaired, boosted, tuned-up, cured, tweaked, fixed, maximized, "swept" or optimised (it doesn't), read http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw your own conclusions.
