how to completely remove bing desktop from my computer

I uninstalled the Bing Desktop, but when I shut down the computer and it came back up, it was still there. How can I get rid of it completely?

Bing desktop was released through the windows update system,

Which is where you can Uninstall the update from,

Go to Uninstall a program or Programs and features,

On the top left click on View installed updates,

Scroll the list, it might take a minute or two to completely load all of the updates.

Right click it and click on Uninstall, it should be listed as, Bing desktop search.

P.S.

Change how you receive windows Recommended updates so when you uninstall it, it will not reload.

I long ago set up my Windows Updates so I had to choose which updates to install. I made a point NOT to select Bing when I last ran Updates, but it installed itself anyway like some type of virus. Since it's not showing itself anywhere on my PC when I do a search, there's really nothing there to uninstall.

Here's what worked for me (sent to me btw by the folks at Bing):

You may change your default homepage thru your browser options. To do this, please follow theses steps:
1. Launch your Mozilla Firefox browser.
2. Click on Firefox, located on the upper left corner of the page
3. Select Options
4. Under General Tab > Homepage, enter your desire homepage
5. Click OK
To change your search engine:
1. Launch your Mozilla Firefox browser
2. Click the drop down button on the search box located at the upper right corner of your page
3. Select your desired search engine

Two ways to deal with it:

a) go to MSFT RegEdit, do Edit Search for Bing Desktop and delete every mention of it (I've done that before with other stuff -- on your head be it) Never had a problem yet. SPLAT! on the sidewalk. Do make a system restore point, I always do but the method works.

b) search for uninstaller program. I found REVO. I had used the free version 3 years ago so I trusted it. The free version installed, found the program, I chose "Safe" mode uninstall and UNINstalled Bing Desktop. I followed the prompts from REVO with a bit of intelligence, no problem at all. It was a bit scary to see REVO run the installer to get it to uninstall -- but it worked. I changed my update prompts to prompt me. MSFT had been installing updates for some time at that realtime moment. MSFT ran my pc for 45 minutes "preparing to configure updates" MSFT rebooted and all is good.

Comment: Bing Desktop still had one key in the Registry -- I deleted it by hand:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\BingDesktopUpdate

Bing Desktop was still in the Start Menu so I deleted that by hand.

Bing Desktop is gone, at least for now. I'll uninstall Revo and remember them - I like their tool. I don't mind Bing Desktop but it's not very useful really and lacking uninstall is a bad thing.

Bing desktop v1.2 was published on 4/8/13 and released soon after,

The update was 4.9mg

As to what it is listed as/ I'm personally not going to install it to tell you exactly how :)

I would suggest in the future to Review All windows updates before installing them.
