"The program (VUDesktopToast.exe - System Error) can't start because mfc110u.dll is missing from your computer"

The problem with my SONY VAIO notebook VPCEH40EB was resolved as follows:

a) I found the executable VUDesktopToast.exe following this path:

Computer> Local Disk (C :)> Program Files> Sony> VAIO Update

b) I found that really there does not exist the file mfc110u.dll

You must download and install the file.

The steps are these:

1. To download:

2. To install the file. Dll:

Done! Solved!

This solved also the problem for me!!

I have a VGN-Z11MN and I moved from Win7 64bit to Win8

But now I have a probem with MSVCR110.dll lol with same system failure warning

1. What make/model computer are you running? Be specific. Sony VAIO VPCEJ16FX
2. From what operating system, did you upgrade to Windows 8? Win7 Home Premium to Win8 Pro
3. Did you upgrade using the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant or did you create an ISO to use that method to upgrade? Or did you upgrade from a retail disc? ISO
4. When do you get the error message? Please give exact details and error message.

A screenshot would be helpful  It pops up shortly after startup, within the first two-three minutes.

I don't know how to add a screenshot, but the pop-up reads: "VUDesktopToast.exe - System Error" "The program can't start because mfc110u.dll is missing from your computer.  Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

 5) Do you only get the error at startup or does it occur at any other time?  As far as I remember, only after startup.

6. Is the error message, a pop-up dialog box?  Yes, it is a pop-up dialog box.
7. What anti-virus are you running?  Norton 360
8. If you have uninstalled your anti-virus did you use the manufacturer removal tool to uninstall?  N/A.  I have not uninstalled my antivirus.
9. Have you run any registry cleaner either as part of an anti-virus or installed and run separately? If yes, what is the brand name of the registry cleaner?  Yes, I have run Norton Registry Cleanup.
10. Please check the event viewer in the system and application logs for any red errors. Then look to see if any errors mention mfc110u.dll or VUDesktopToast.exe.

Please copy and paste any relevant event viewer errors.

stop all start up programs and restart your device and then try again

The Sony site has an update to their VAIO Update software that for some reason did not self-update on my machine, even though it was published prior to my updating my machine to Windows 8. I tried uninstalling VAIO Update using Uninstall A Program in Control Panel, but it said it couldn't uninstall because VAIO Care was running, so I uninstalled that first.

Then I went to the Sony site: http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=VGNNW270F&template_id=1&region_id=1&tab=download#/downloadTab

If this is not your Sony model, go up near the top left of the page, just left of the photo, and click on "change model..." (on a label near the lower right of your laptop's display).

In the drop-downs, open up the category called Sony Applications (Various) and choose the latest VAIO Care Update. For my model, it was dated 10/29/2012 and 163.70MB in size, version 8.1.0.10120. Not sure if they have a different version for every different model, but I doubt it.

Then go to the category called VAIO Update and download and install the latest VAIO Update Software. For my model, it was dated 11/06/2012 and 37.12MB in size, version 6.1.1.10250.

I haven't seen the VUDesktopToast.exe error since.

I upgraded my vaio care, vaio update and my vaio control center

and corrected... :)
