"The program (VUDesktopToast.exe - System Error) can't start because mfc110u.dll is missing from your computer"

I am getting this error too.

I'm also on a Sony computer.

I'm definitely sure it is NOT a virus (except that it is SONY software, so it could be "crapware", and opinions will vary there).

My opinion here is that "VUDesktopToast.exe is:

"Vaio Update Desktop Toast" notification program from the Vaio update software.

"Toast" in developer speak is the little notification that pops up down in the lower right corner of your screen to tell you something amazing.

I'm going to uninstall it. It points me to updates from 2009 anyway and I found it worked once after the Windows 8 upgrade.

Sony basically hasn't written a new driver, BIOS or anything for my All-in-One 27" computer after the release of Windows 7.

So there is very little reason for it to call home.

2. From what operating system, did you upgrade to Windows 8?  Win 7 Home Premium
3. Did you upgrade using the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant or did you create an ISO to use that method to upgrade? Or did you upgrade from a retail disc? Created ISO
4. When do you get the error message? Please give exact details and error message.

A screenshot would be helpful The error message pops up when VUDesktopToast.exe was activated.

• 5. Do you only get the error at startup or does it occur at any other time? No, sometimes when a window is closed, sometimes during a restart and shutting down.

6. Is the error message, a pop-up dialog box? Yes it is.
7. What anti-virus are you running? None
8. If you have uninstalled your anti-virus did you use the manufacturer removal tool to uninstall?
9. Have you run any registry cleaner either as part of an anti-virus or installed and run separately? If yes, what is the brand name of the registry cleaner? Premium tools by iolo
10. Please check the event viewer in the system and application logs for any red errors. Then look to see if any errors mention mfc110u.dll or VUDesktopToast.exe.

 Please copy and paste any relevant event viewer errors.

3. Did you upgrade using the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant or did you create an ISO to use that method to upgrade? online download - do not have a disk drive.
4. When do you get the error message? Please give exact details and error message.

A screenshot would be helpful- I start up my computer, I get to work on something and the message comes up. Will send a screen shot next time.

2. From what operating system, did you upgrade to Windows 8?----Right after I upgrade my laptop to Windows 8 from Win7 home basic.
3. Did you upgrade using the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant or did you create an ISO to use that method to upgrade? Or did you upgrade from a retail disc?--No,I upgrade on line with Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. 
4. When do you get the error message? Please give exact details and error message.

5. Do you only get the error at startup or does it occur at any other time?-it happens before  the Startscreen(after detect Bios and hardware ). When my laptop is running,it happens occasionally.
