To launch your applications, go to the Start Screen by pointing your mouse pointer to the left hand corner of the Windows 8 screen and click it.
Scroll to the right and launch your application.
In the same Start Screen, right click and click All Apps - you should see all installed applications on the system then.
Sounds like you might be running 8.1. Look for an arrow in a circle in the bottom left of the Start Screen. Click that and you'll be in All Apps. They'll be grouped alphabetically be default, but you can choose different sorting options.
It's still Start -> All Programs, just looks different. IMO it's an improvement, since I always hated the layers of submenus.

Every time I right click in that space, it says "Name Groups".
I too can't find ALL the programs and could just spit....
I have programs that install, with sub-utilities -- like the one that manages passwords to access said program. I can find the main program in a number of ways, but for the life of me, I can't find the one I need. I'm finding myself relying on the file explorer to locate the executables I need.
Why is it so hard for them to simply include keep the "Start, All Programs"? If they want to entice "old school" Windows 7 diehards, they need to keep basic functionality like that.
Anyone notice that "even number" Windows versions always, erh, had challenges, and the "odd numbered" ones were ground-breaking and wonderful...? I loved Win 3, 7, and even XP. But NT(aka 4.0), Vista, Me, and 8, not so much...
One more reason to hate Win8 and 8.1.
That may have worked on Windows 8(.0), but it doesn't on 8.1. Doing the right-click there gets me nothing but a clickable spot labeled "Customize" which displays no apps or programs, just lets you reorganize those Start-screen blocks. However, swiping the Start screen upward does bring up a screenful of apps and, if you scroll far to the right, the Accessories group. However I'm still not finding anything really equivalent to the All Programs list. The programs you're used to seeing in the list are now a pile of icons barely distinguishable from the adjacent "apps" icons, vendor and manufacturer icons, and "Windows system" icons (where you can at least find the Control Panel). -- Essentially, Win8 might be fine for a tablet, but I think it's a terribly awkward interface for an actual computer, even a home computer.
