To launch your applications, go to the Start Screen by pointing your mouse pointer to the left hand corner of the Windows 8 screen and click it.
Scroll to the right and launch your application.
In the same Start Screen, right click and click All Apps - you should see all installed applications on the system then.
This is the only answer that worked for me. Right clicking as had been previously suggested only brought up an option to rename groups. Thank you for being accurate and concise.

I don't want any apps, the apps are just a cluttered ineffiecent front end in a poor attempt to be more friendly.

Sincerely, it is wonderful that Microsoft is trying to reinvent things as simple as a 'sorted list', pathetic that they convinced themselves that Windows 8 is in anyway more friendly then ANY prior version.
I want something more traditional.
Never thought I would say this, but my next computer will be a MAC or I will try Ubuntu or some other O/S.
Microsoft has made my do not purchase again 'list'!

Well, the all apps screen will show you the same information as you would see in the traditional start menu, just with a different layout. The must be something wrong if you can't find them there, or you've installed the programs in a non-standard way.
