Movie Maker 2012 - Black screen on playback
I recently installed Windows Essentials 2012 on my Windows 7 laptop. I went into Movie Maker and tried it out. Unfortunately when I wanted to preview something text or photos I had selected, a black screen appeared in the player. I can add text, music, photos and videos, but when I hit the play button, all I get is a black screen in the player. Is this something other people have experienced? Is there any way to fix this?
Thanks!

Had the same blank screen problem and converted back to Essentials 2011. That didn't work at first either, until I realized I had recently installed a Microsoft update (KB 2670838) which updates Direct3D components among other things. Once I uninstalled that Microsoft update, the 2011 version worked fine again. More info on that update here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2670838?wa=wsignin1.0

I have tried Every single suggestion in the thread above. Every one. IE non were missed. Including
- Every link to graphic drivers or tools suggested. (Intel specific site, AMD site, HP site... all of them) I had the exact same experience that every other person who tried those did. (My drivers are the most current ones from HP that can be installed)
- Every link to codecs and others diagnostic tools above, Again, exact same experience that every other user had.
- Issue with all movie files regardless of the type, that all worked in 2011, and now work again that I have reinstalled 2011, same as other user in this post experienced.
4) I finally followed what was the ANSWER on this page and uninstalled 2012 and am now back on 2011. (Is this really the only ANSWER? if yes,and WMM2012 simply does not work with the HP radeon HD 6xxx drivers, just let us know please so many will not spend days on this) Else you should remove that as the answer.
In the spirit of getting 2012 working I will gladly re-install wmm 2012 and give you the logs, Same as many others on this forum have already done.
But first, simple question. Since most everbody on this thread has an identical issue and already send you logs. Can you do a quick search to see ifany of these users got a solution that worked?
There are 9 pages of the same suggestion, with many of them sending you the same logs with nobody getting a working solution. It just feels a bit silly to repeat the exact same steps over and over again for each person. However, again, if you beleive repeating the same steps above and sending you logs will help, I will galdy reinstall.
Thanks again
Carter Johnson.
