Nokia Lumia 920 driver error

I wanted to download my music via the phone app since most of my music library does not appear in my phone to download from the cloud (none of my music purchased via CD appears in it), but I encountered this problem:

When I connected my Lumia 920 for the first time to my computer, it did not showed the option to install any drivers. Instead it appears as "RM 820| Nokia Lumia 920" in divices and printers. I tried Troubleshooting but it says "MTP USB device has a driver problem" . I Installed the Windows phone app but it doesnt recogniced the phoen either. Running on Windows 8, 64 bit. HELP!!!

Hello!

My problem is the same.

Lumia 920 is a new phone, the operating system on my laptop Win7 64 bit.

I tried all the solutions proposed earlier, but did not help.

still I get the following error message: RM-821 / Nokia Lumia 920 device driver is not included.

Read the comments on the subject of the problem I think the win 64-bit operating systems features. I do not understand that Microsoft's mobile OS, Microsoft does not provide drivers for why?

Here's what worked for me:

  1. Go to Microsoft Update download catalog page (link works only in IE) http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/home.a
  2. Search for 'Windows Phone WinUSB'
  3. Add the driver to cart and proceed to checkout
  4. Download the file to some directory
  5. Extract downloaded .cab file with eg. Winzip
  6. In Device manager click 'Update driver', 'Browse for sw', search for the directory you extracted the files and click Next.
  7. The "RM-821|Nokia Lumia 920" will be replaced by "Windows Phone WinUSB"

do the same for the second device and there you go."

Just a quick update. i found some advice on the Microsoft forum that suggested that i turned my phone off and on. Yeah right! i thought, but I had the windows phone app running on my mac anc connected my phone and as normal it was not recognised. Then I turned my phone off and on. On restarting the app recognised my phone :) Now i can connect anytime and sync my music etc. Hope this solution helps anyone else having this problem.

    I also had same problem. After restarting the Lumia 920, Window 8 64bit connected it.

    My situation was a bit different, just dumping all steps in case they be of some help to others:

    • Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64
    • Didn't read any docs :) and just plugged-in the Lumia
    • Couldn't see the phone as a drive in Windows Explorer under "Portable Devices"
    • Went to "Devices and Printers" and saw there was an app to install
    • Installed Window Phone app for Desktop
    • Went back to "Devices and Printers" and opened the app
    • The app would sit there waiting for me to plug-in the phone (which of course was already plugged-in)
    • Plugged in and out several times
    • Checked "Device Manager" under "Computer Management" and saw that the "Windows Phone" device (under "Portable Devices") couldn't be started
    • Tried updating, disabling/re-enabling, nothing worked

    At this point I was taken off-track by an old "Nokia 3600 Slide" folder in Windows Explorer and by a problem with another device (Broadcom 5880), but anyway these is what I did after:

    • Uninstalled Window Phone app for Desktop
    • Uninstalled "Windows Phone" device (under "Portable Devices")
    • Rebooted
    • Plugged-in the Lumia
    • The "Driver Software Installation" dialog started installing devices "RM-820|Nokia Lumia 920" and "MTP USB device"
    • Both failed, the first simply disappeared while the second was under "Portable Devices" but was not working
    • Decided it was time to find some help and found this thread :)
    • Rebooted the Lumia while still plugged-in
    • The "MTP USB device" finally turned into a working "Windows Phone" device
    • The Lumia appeared in Windows Explorer and I could access it without problems

    I then re-installed Window Phone app for Desktop and it worked flawlessly from that point on.

    I wrote this whole step-by-step thing because I'm not sure whether uninstalling Window Phone app for Desktop and the "Windows Phone" driver had anything to do with it, maybe it would have been enough to reboot the phone while plugged-in.

    As a side note, when the "Driver Software Installation" dialog popped up after rebooting the phone, another device named "NOKIA BOOTMGR" appeared along with the "Windows Phone" device. While the "Windows Phone" one installed correctly, this new one failed with error message "Device unplugged".

    Everything is working anyway, thanks again.

    Edit: for the sake of completeness, the machine had already installed Zune (paired with an Omnia 7 phone), Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones, Microsoft Expression Blend SDK for Windows Phone 7 and Microsoft Expression Blend SDK for Windows Phone 7.1
