I’ve just started to run Windows 8 for the first time.  Have there been any updates released for Windows 8?

Yes.  An update for Windows 8 has been released that addresses a set of post-launch issues.  You will not be notified that this update is available during the first 24 hours after you run Windows 8 for the first time, however you can manually check for and install this update at any time.

If you are experiencing any problems with your Windows 8 installation, make sure you have installed the latest updates by following these steps:

1.     At the Start screen, type Windows Update.

2.     Tap or click Settings.

3.     Tap or click Install optional updates.

4.     Tap or click the link that says an important update is available.  If you want to install any optional updates that are available, you can click the link notifying you that optional updates are available as well.

Check all of the updates you want to install and then tap or click the Install button.  You will need to reboot your PC after installing the update for the changes to go into effect.

    Beware after installing Windows 8 and restarting after downloading the updates Windows 8 refuses to load.  This happened on both of the computers I have.  Keeps trying to make an automatic repair and then fails and gives me the blue screen with the troubleshooting options of which nothing has worked to get Windows 8 to load.

    My installation is doing this exact same thing but I haven't even downloaded any updates.

    I had the same problem I bought a new dell in august I installed win 8 on 10/26  computer locked up  crashed several time and lost everything I went to the dell web site  Typed in my service tag no. down loaded updates and drivers for my computer When it asks for operating System select windows 8 64 bit or which ever one you have the windows 7 drivers do not work on a dell running windows 8 So far my computer has ran great all day  I am not installing windows updates

    I have dell xps15 laptop of course 64 bit. I can't get Windows 8 to run long enought to get on the dell site for the updates. It keeps going through the automatic repair loop. I did download the A11 bios update before installation. However, that forced me to change the SATA Operation to <AHCI> instead of Intel Smart Response Technology.

    I bought the  Pro Pack update & the add features won't accept my Key !

    Also my Galaxy Note isn't recognized for updates to my phone !

    I hear that... I am tired of being used as a test subject.  If you have any idea how to repair the hardware recognition and relevant software/driver installation, please advise.... I do not understand how a company with so many resources can actually roll out something as horrid as Windows 8.  Actually, I've never upgraded or installed were it went smoothly... Maybe I do need to reconsider the systems I use to get my life and work together.
