I’ve just started to run Windows 8 for the first time.  Have there been any updates released for Windows 8?

Yes.  An update for Windows 8 has been released that addresses a set of post-launch issues.  You will not be notified that this update is available during the first 24 hours after you run Windows 8 for the first time, however you can manually check for and install this update at any time.

If you are experiencing any problems with your Windows 8 installation, make sure you have installed the latest updates by following these steps:

1.     At the Start screen, type Windows Update.

2.     Tap or click Settings.

3.     Tap or click Install optional updates.

4.     Tap or click the link that says an important update is available.  If you want to install any optional updates that are available, you can click the link notifying you that optional updates are available as well.

Check all of the updates you want to install and then tap or click the Install button.  You will need to reboot your PC after installing the update for the changes to go into effect.

    Hi,

          I got my upgrade to work by downloading Win 8 to a USB drive then setting boot order to USB drive as first location. Then select keep personal files only. Hope this helps. MS didnt make Win 8 easy unfortunately.

    The same thing happened to me! Is it the updates? "Sometimes" It will boot, but not always!Im still trying to figure out what causes it to boot and what causes it not to boot.

    I think it is the update! When I rolled back to no update, it was working, when I updated it took a ton of time to update, and now it hangs randomly on startup. This is friggin frustrating.

    I had the same problem I bought a new dell in august I installed win 8 on 10/26  computer locked up  crashed several time and lost everything I went to the dell web site  Typed in my service tag no. down loaded updates and drivers for my computer When it asks for operating System select windows 8 64 bit or which ever one you have the windows 7 drivers do not work on a dell running windows 8 So far my computer has ran great all day  I am not installing windows updates
