I’ve just started to run Windows 8 for the first time.  Have there been any updates released for Windows 8?

Yes.  An update for Windows 8 has been released that addresses a set of post-launch issues.  You will not be notified that this update is available during the first 24 hours after you run Windows 8 for the first time, however you can manually check for and install this update at any time.

If you are experiencing any problems with your Windows 8 installation, make sure you have installed the latest updates by following these steps:

1.     At the Start screen, type Windows Update.

2.     Tap or click Settings.

3.     Tap or click Install optional updates.

4.     Tap or click the link that says an important update is available.  If you want to install any optional updates that are available, you can click the link notifying you that optional updates are available as well.

Check all of the updates you want to install and then tap or click the Install button.  You will need to reboot your PC after installing the update for the changes to go into effect.

    Sorry Scott, I was merely replying to the earlier comment made about no option to create System Recovery Disk.

    Do you have access to another PC with Win 7, perhaps friends or family?  The only thought I have is perhaps trying a System Recovery Disk created from Win7 - it might get you access to a restore point which is usually created prior to an update.

    I am trying to restore back to Windows 7. 

    DUMB question, but can I make a System Recovery Disk on another computer that has Windows 7 on it now???  If so, pls how to for a novice?

    NOTHING works on my computer since loading Windows 8.

    Not the keyboard, mouse, software from my computer mfg (only a year old btw). Finally got the internet to come on - but can't search, scroll, etc. (I am on another computer right now - duh- WINDOWS 8 has made mine USELESS!!!!!!!!)

    Microsoft needs to come out with a FAST FIX ASAP and let their customers have the option of restoring back to WINDOWS 7 and preferrably restoring their computer back to the last restore point before the update.  Not many of us have the time to have to re-learn Windows for pete's sake.  Windows 8 should be for TABLETS ONLY!!!!!!!!

    I am feeling really duped by Microsoft.  I trusted them.  But they have really failed me by not offering an option to automatically be able to restore my computer back to what it was before I did the upgrade.  Should that not be Customer Service 101????

    I just purchased windows 8, and upon trying to get it set up and updated I receive this error code of 80240440- and It's not letting me do anything, and my wife and I have been banging our heads trying to figure this out... Please help us.
