I’ve just started to run Windows 8 for the first time.  Have there been any updates released for Windows 8?

Yes.  An update for Windows 8 has been released that addresses a set of post-launch issues.  You will not be notified that this update is available during the first 24 hours after you run Windows 8 for the first time, however you can manually check for and install this update at any time.

If you are experiencing any problems with your Windows 8 installation, make sure you have installed the latest updates by following these steps:

1.     At the Start screen, type Windows Update.

2.     Tap or click Settings.

3.     Tap or click Install optional updates.

4.     Tap or click the link that says an important update is available.  If you want to install any optional updates that are available, you can click the link notifying you that optional updates are available as well.

Check all of the updates you want to install and then tap or click the Install button.  You will need to reboot your PC after installing the update for the changes to go into effect.

    well I've just noticed being how I get  the same update for windows defender it  shows installing  everyday for months now and keeps  wanting me to download it everyday on top of that, which i do every time and I have to fix updates every time ( every day) before trying or it fails. Recently noticed with my new comp is always says I'm running 2 versions of windows 7 and  windows 8.1? Very confused here nothing is working properly and Now That you Can't actually go to windows site  and down load what you need it's quite confusing and difficult to do.

    Strange I have a brand new system for a year now Alienware x51 and nothing at all will configure properly been stuck in support since  I bought it and very angry about that as spending thousands of dollars on a new system that's top of  the line in speed and everything else and it is windows 8.1 Why I would even have window 7 is beyond me and NO I haven't click the run programs to run from and earlier version of windows but I have them and it is causing much distress and confusion.

    I have to run allowable programs every day and  I'm sure this is not safe on my computer due to this issue. I have tried trouble shooting every day also, Still no avail I get the same process I do every day GRRRR!
