No need for unqalified stomach feelings. Like I said in this thread in June, we already have confirmation from a Microsoft official that no Lumia phones prior to 950 will receive USB-OTG support. I'll re-post the quote:

In Windows 10, Microsoft is introducing support for USB Dual Role. USB Dual Role refers to the ability of a system to behave as a USB Device or a USB Host. This is a really exciting feature as it adds the ability to use your USB devices with your Mobile phone for the first time ever in Windows!

Please note, this feature will only be available on new Windows 10 devices that support USB Dual Role. This is because of the hardware changes required for the USB port to support device enumeration. While there are devices in the market today that have USB Dual Role capable controllers, the platforms were not designed to support USB Dual Role. You have posted in the most recent thread about USB-OTG, which is good, because you searched. USB drivers are software and can be ‘ported’ of course. However for Windows Phone, those driver (and the whole USB host stack) had to be re-written from ground-up. I think, that was meant and it was just a wording issue. Furthermore, USB-OTG does require hardware. We have to wait for the official ‘Lumia Windows 10’ firmware, whether the Lumia 1020 came with that hardware. Although Nokia had a long tradition when it comes to USB-OTG – started in 2007 – and even offered USB-OTG in Nokia Series 40 (feature phones) like the Nokia 6303i classic, I have not so much hope this was included with the Lumia 1020. Anyway, that is just a unqualified stomach feeling. Currently, you have to go for the Lumia 950 series to get USB-OTG.

By the way, Microsoft does not leverage Microsoft Answers as feedback channel. Why ever. Therefore, your comments drown in the Internet swarm. Furthermore, thanks to the openness of the Internet, everyone is able to post here, even if uneducated/unqualified in Computer Science. This is good because we do get interesting approaches and solution this way, sometimes. However in Microsoft Answers no framework exists to value posts (negatively). Consequently, some users – although here for several years – do not learn about their post quality in general. They see only their positive posts. Furthermore, because Microsoft does not add much official answers here, and because we do not see many ‘employees’ who are not outsourced actually, because of that, some users try to answer everything. Others try to be conciliatory and are not aware they do the opposite with their wording, damaging the brand even more. Long story short: Please, please, don’t be offended by false, silly, or useless statements too much.

Really, going back to a two year old post. The simple reality is OTG does require additional capability in the hardware. If a device supports USB client capability, as phones do, it is not a given that they also support host capability which is what is necessary for OTG. To add the option likely doesn't cost a lot, but if you are manufacturing and selling in volume, a few cents adds up. So someone made the decision, most likely in the light of cloud storage and the lack of a user accessible file system, that connecting an external drive (USB or otherwise) to a Windows Phone was not going to be a necessary trait, and the hardware capability was left out. Good decision or not, the devices don't have the physical capability, no matter how small the drivers are.
