Sorry, if you are looking for OTG in a 640XL, or any other Lumia that doesn't have it (don't think there are any) it's not happening. OTG requires both the hardware capability and the software drivers. Without the first, which is not a given, there is no software way to change that. If OTG is a deal breaker, don't get a device that doesn't say it supports it.

Not sure exactly what you mean there, but since it seems the Lumia line is being closed, there won't be any with or without OTG from MS. My personal opinion is if MS makes another device, it will have USB-C and all that comes with. I don't see MS chasing the low (med?) market in the future, so a low priced, micro-USB sporting device is unlikely, IMHO. You see this same direction in the Surface line. The lower priced Surface models (not Pro) are gone, with no apparent replacement. I think that's a shame. I like my Surface 3 and it serves a different purpose than my Surface Pro 3. I do get it though. MS seems to be wanting to display the possible, not the 'what others can do just fine'.
