USB OTG support for lumia series...

OK, so you bought an N9 which ran the Linux-base MeeGo, before the MS/Nokia partnership/purchase. The last Xperia that ran a MS OS was a the X2 which ran Windows Mobile 6.5 and was released in Jan 2011. So if the Xperia is recent, it runs Android. What does this have to do with Windows Phone/Win 10 Mobile, or Microsoft for that matter.

With the advent of relatively ubiquitous data connectivity on phones, and the availability of cloud storage, SD storage in many models, somebody decided the need for USB OTG wasn't a priority. It's too late to second guess that decision. That decision determined the hardware that would be required, and that hardware didn't support host capabilities on the charge/sync port.  Decisions are made that may not be popular, but there were most likely valid reasons when they were made. MS isn't unique in this. On occasion Apple made the decision optical drives were no longer needed, more than one USB port was a waste, expended memory was unnecessary and headphone sockets may be going away.

If a device doesn't meet your requirements, don't buy it. If you can't get an answer on whether a feature is included, be hesitant about buying it. Make sure you can return it, if you choose to check it yourself. Seems a waste of time to berate a manufacturer for a device you bought, not having a feature that was essential to you.

I used to have a Nokia N9 maybe the most awful phones in the history of this planet?

God how I hated that **** but it was strong I threw it across the room many times.  

I bought a Sony Xperia and assumed it would do OTG. It did not they would not refund my money instead they sent me on a wild goose chase to Helsinki to a Sony service centre that had vanished in the night so I was told.

Then finally I tracked their service centre to find it was some other company doing the service for them that did not answer the phones and you could not get access to their service centre.

All of these phone companies are no better than pirates. Maybe the best is Huawei?

It is all a scam of course they can support it it is blackmail in order you buy their over priced models which support it.

Of course they cannot take hostages but if they could they almost certainly would.

How do you suggest to "make or port" new hardware to millions of legacy devices ?

Gary made a false statement which offends people. Simple as that. If Microsoft Answers allowed to down-vote and/or to remove false statements, we would not see such threads. Furthermore, it is unknown whether old devices really lack the hardware as well. However, because the Lumia 550 does not support USB OTG either—although it came with Windows 10 Mobile out of the box—I do not have much hope, we see USB OTG for older phone models, either.

Yes you can. They are called drivers. You either make them or port them.
