error code 80248015 can't install updates.

Verify that the time, date/year & time-zone are set correctly

Always remember to set a System Restore point before doing any work on your computer.

Rename the Windows Update Softwaredistribution folder

That is what I got when searched around for error 0x80248015

This problem may occur if the Windows Update, Software distribution folder has been corrupted.

 We can refer to the following steps to rename this folder.

Please note that the folder will be re-created the next time we visit the Windows Update site.

  1. Close all the open windows.
  2. Click the "Start" Button, click "All programs", and click "Accessories".
  3. Right-click "Command Prompt" and click "Run as administrator".
  4. In "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type in " net stop WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was successfully stopped before we try to rename the folder.

  1. Click the "Start" Button, in the "Start Search" box, type in " %windir%" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
  2. In the opened folder, look for the folder named "SoftwareDistribution".
  3. Right-click on the folder, select "Rename" and type " Sdold " (without the quotes) to rename this folder.
  4. Still in "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type the command " net start WuAuServ" (without the quotes) in the opened window to restart the Windows Updates service.

Note: Please look at the cmd window and make sure it says that it was successfully started.

Note: If the issue is resolved and you can successfully download and install updates, you can safely delete the SoftwareDistribution.old directory to recover disk space.

    You may want to temporarily uninstall Avast and try the updates.

    Sometimes, antivirus programs are not truly disabled when we disable them as they have very deep hooks into the operating system.

    Use the uninstall utility

    Just tried again for the crack and this time it is back to 8024402C

    Tried uninstalling Avast, Windows Update and Defender still not downloading. Also did a scannow which found and repared corrupted files. Can't access CBS log, so don't know what they were. Also took Adobe off at startup as it was the last update to install. Think it was an upgrade to Adobe X

    Any other ideas?

    You need to copy the CBS log and paste it to your desktop or Documents folder.

    Then open the copied version of the file.

    Here is an >  article  < that also gives instructions on reading and searching the CBS log file.

    ~

    • Do a manual visit to Windows Update with Internet Explorer.

    [ Start > Windows Update or open IE, click Tools, Windows Update ]

    When the installations fail, close IE.

    Now go to Start > Run > type in

    %windir%\windowsupdate.log

    Click OK or press Enter

    Please post the last 40 or so lines of the WindowsUpdate.log

    Scroll down towards the bottom for the latest entries to locate the ərror code(s) associated with the latest failed attempt to download/install.

    Start at the bottom and work your way up to a section that shows an ERROR, WARNING, or FATAL.

    If appropriate copy and paste the last 40 lineas, the ərror codes into this thrəad sosomeone may be able to assist you.

    • On the other hand, you may be able to find the ərror code and other suggestions by searching the forum for it in the find answers here It is at the top of most pages

    • Also check windows folder for file called KB******.log (****** = number of update IE KB896688) and post the contents of the failed update.

    This may provide further clues as to why the update failed.
