On-Screen keyboard icon no longer pops up when touch text box

Hello,

I am a Windows 7 Power user. I recently upgraded my Acer Iconia Tab w500 from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro. The product works great however previously in Windows 7 whenever in desktop or anywhere that requires a text input, when I click on the text box, a keyboard icon will popup and this will allow me to click it to launch the on screen keyboard, However after the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro, this icon does not appear anymore and I cannot find the settings anywhere to request it to launch OSK on text box. I can however, manually launch it from the taskbar. Please advise.

* OSK auto launches when in metro mode. (e.g.) swipe in from left and click Search. When the text box appears and I click it, OSK launches automatically.

I am unsure if this is a bug in Windows 8 Pro. However I have verified by doing a clean install on Windows 8 too and it has the same issue.

My tablet has 4 points of input.

    Hello Madison and Lucas,

    Downloaded and installed Win 8.1 pro preview still nope keyboard does not auto pop-up..

    But just to let you guys know interesting things I found with this,  :

    They did bring back the start button which goes to start screen.

    "My computer" is now renamed to "This PC"

    Skydrive is now integrated into Windows where it can be accessible from within "This PC" or anywhere in Windows Explorer Left hand  Navigation pane

    Immersive control panel now has new options such as PC Info and Lockscreen. For tablet users, swiping down when in the lockscreen will bring up the camera where you can take pics even when the device is locked.

    Lastly, a very interesting discovery where my 1280x800 resolution screen is able to snap into half 2 different apps as this feature in Windows 8 previously required a 1366x768 res or higher screen to work.

    I just found something that works with AutoIt

    Download and install AutoIt from here

    Open notepad

    Write

    While 1 $cursor = MouseGetCursor() If $cursor = 5 Then ShellExecute('"C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\TabTip.exe"') Sleep(750) WEnd

    Click file

    Click save as

    Type Script.au3

    Click save.

    Open the saved file

    Voila, now  your issue is fixed

    This works great. Unfortunately it keeps popping up now even when I want to use the keyboard :( anyway to unistall this script.

    Hi,

    I know that the keyboard pops up and if you want to use the keyboard but i think Microsoft's going to fix this on the release version of Windows 8.1 (It's still preview (beta))

    Anyway, after you type using the keyboard the touch keyboard is hidden.
