On-Screen keyboard icon no longer pops up when touch text box

original title: On-Screen keyboard help.

Hello,

I am a Windows 7 Power user. I recently upgraded my Acer Iconia Tab w500 from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 Pro. The product works great however previously in Windows 7 whenever in desktop or anywhere that requires a text input, when I click on the text box, a keyboard icon will popup and this will allow me to click it to launch the on screen keyboard, However after the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro, this icon does not appear anymore and I cannot find the settings anywhere to request it to launch OSK on text box. I can however, manually launch it from the taskbar. Please advise.

* OSK auto launches when in metro mode. (e.g.) swipe in from left and click Search. When the text box appears and I click it, OSK launches automatically.

I am unsure if this is a bug in Windows 8 Pro. However I have verified by doing a clean install on Windows 8 too and it has the same issue.

My tablet has 4 points of input.

I wouldn't mind ditching Windows for Android for my portable rig. Have a Note Pro 12.2 I like quite a bit. If someone would make a decent integrated keyboard with a trackpad, it would be perfect for most things I do.

On my Yoga 2 hybrid auto popup worked great until I installed Classic Shell so I could have a good program interface.

With the Metro **** disabled so is the auto keyboard.

Micro$haft strikes again.

A friend bought me the Windows Yoga 2, at $100+more instead of the android version.

Wish they'd asked first.

Time to wipe this and flash Android 5 so I can do some work.

Wonderful hardware, crippled by a horrible GUI.

Reminds me of OSX and IOS products.

Thank you for this Nic.Using Autoit, and the code below, I was able to get the keyboard to popup automatically on a Windows 7 machine whenever a user clicks/presses on an input box. This worked brilliantly :)

Thought that was standard in win 7 tablet?

Go to the start screen, search osk and there should be only one result. Right click on it (or long tap if using a touchscreen) and press Pin to Taskbar. Go back to the desktop and press the icon on the taskbar that looks like a keyboard in front of a monitor. Voila!

Why do people not have a clue what the issue is 4 pages in. You completely miss the point. Pinning the icon does zip to get the keyboard to pop up when you tap on a text box. Voila!
