Windows 7 update not working

I let wsus offline sit doing nothing for several hours and eventually all updates were installed. Originally I did not use it correctly. I put it on a memory stick and ran it from there. Just follow the instructions on the download site. Success at last. The more I play with windows 7 the more I love Windows 10!

Unfortunately,this did NOT work.

I still get the message that Windows 10 Updates Failed and cannot get rid of the message, no matter WHAT settings were done on Windows Update.  It accepts whatever was selected, BUT ultimate results is that the WIndows Update keeps seaching... even for 8 or 9 hours, without downloading anything.

It all started when I tried to Update to Windows 10 late July.  Got the message Windows 10 Update Failed, and ever since then, it has not been able to Download    ANY  updates for Windows 7 Home Premium Edition.

I was up to date on all Windows Updates prior to Windows 10 Update attempts.

HELP!!!

Go into Control Panel >> click on Windows Update item

Click on Change settings (at top left)

under Important updates, click on the down-arrow pull-down

Click on Never check for updates

press OK

Close the Control Panel window

Then Logoff and restart Windows fresh.

When ready, go back into Control Panel >> click on Windows Update item

Click on Change settings (at top left)

under Important updates, click on the down-arrow pull-down

Now make the selection that you need for automatic updates

press OK when done

Close the Control Panel window

Next, do a fresh visit to Windows Update. Kindly advise on results.

Hello Maurice, thank you for the clear and concise steps on a resolution.  It seems it has worked for most...  I have bought a refurb online running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.  When I launch the windows update from control panel the updated will run for a very long time(over night) and continue to run.  I have not received any error codes.  I followed your steps this morning and will let the machine run for the day.  I am just curious if you or anyone else has had the same kind of wait times?   Thank you for yor time and please let me know if there is any additional information that can assist.

I can verify it works if a machine is setup with a fresh install and all of the automatic updates are enabled. It does take a very long time and when I had decided I wanted a new hdd with 3 partitions (2 running 7 1 running 10) I had to update Windows 7 twice.. I still wanted to use windows 7 since my graphics card is not compatible with the native directx version of Windows 10. Needless to say, these updates took a while. The first partition update took around 8 hours to realize it needed to update whilst checking for updates then however long to install (Around 3?). The second partition I was not as lucky and it ended up taking around 94 hours to realize it needed updates plus whatever it took to install. Just leave the computer running, don't try to go to any websites or use the computer in any way except basic drivers to get the computer online and to register windows. Then wait. and wait. and wait. and waste electricity whilst doing so. You will get your updates and a lot of dust free air (if you have dust filters like I do on my fans). I just wish MS would fix this stupid bug.
