Windows 7 update not working

Make sure you have at least Internet Explorer Ver 8

and using only Internet Explorer with administrator privilege.

Search for Microsoft Update Catalog

It is a database of all the updates for all Operating Systems

Select Critical Updates for your Operating system 32 bit or 64 bit

Copy ten or so down to a specially created folder such as C:\Updates

Then try double clicking on each one which should activate and install,

Hopefully this will reconnect the Windows Update Procedure with the Database,

and after reboot the Updating should work.

If not, then just keep using IE to download the updates.

There are also websites describing the use of Microsoft Update Catalog

I too have been going out of my mind trying to fix this issue, which microsoft is aware of.  Do they give us a simple answer?  Not for a 68 y/o to understand in depth.  I thought I was totally losing it, but I see from reading their site, I am SURELY NOT ALONE!  Why aren't the people selling these systems aware of this issue, and fixing it BEFORE the system ships?  Not good.  A simply download patch would do for me. GRrrrr

I had to reinstall Win 7 and Windows update was not working anymore.

kept getting this error "Code 80072EE2", which does not exist in this forum.

What the heck is going on?

I did a SP1 update and several other updates manually.

Go into Control Panel >> click on Windows Update item

Click on Change settings (at top left)

under Important updates, click on the down-arrow pull-down

Click on Never check for updates

press OK

Close the Control Panel window

Then Logoff and restart Windows fresh.

When ready, go back into Control Panel >> click on Windows Update item

Click on Change settings (at top left)

under Important updates, click on the down-arrow pull-down

Now make the selection that you need for automatic updates

press OK when done

Close the Control Panel window

Next, do a fresh visit to Windows Update. Kindly advise on results.
