Windows 7 update not working

I have tried all the solutions on the forum but i still have the problem of windows 7 update not working.My computer has been shutdown for 6 weeks as i have been  away. On startup yesterday th probleme  started.

Go into Control Panel >> click on Windows Update item

Click on Change settings (at top left)

under Important updates, click on the down-arrow pull-down

Click on Never check for updates

press OK

Close the Control Panel window

Then Logoff and restart Windows fresh.

When ready, go back into Control Panel >> click on Windows Update item

Click on Change settings (at top left)

under Important updates, click on the down-arrow pull-down

Now make the selection that you need for automatic updates

press OK when done

Close the Control Panel window

Next, do a fresh visit to Windows Update. Kindly advise on results.

If this solves the original issue, kindly click on the MARK It (green) icon.

If this has helped, click on the green Yes  (Helpful) icon as appropos

    This is absolutely absurd!

    Microsoft is playing this game with everyone to try to force us all to Windows 10 because they don't want to deal with Windows 7 anymore.

    It doesn't matter what they tell you because this is what they've decided behind closed doors. They don't care about the end-user but only about the next biggest trend. This is why they constantly buck consumer concern and leave us flailing in the wind without real solutions nor real answers.

    They don't want to make Windows Update work seamlessly for all us Windows 7 customers because if they did that it would under-cut their desire for us to eventually be Windows 10 users.

    You see, if all of a sudden Microsoft started implementing quality renditions and online maintenance of the Windows Update module for Win 7 machines (without all the spyware and Win10 nagware), then they know that those users will feel like there really is no reason to upgrade to Windows 10 ever-------which is precisely what they don't want to happen.

    Just like the elite bankers are stripping us citizens of our hard-earned money, so too is Microsoft stripping away our (P)ersonal (C)omputer experience.

    What's the point of calling it a PC, if you're just going to take that away from us by making it difficult for us to customize to our liking----thus removing our right to consumer choice?!

    I know that Google is rightfully under much scrutiny for their Anti-Trust and Privacy violating practices right now but someone also really needs to turn the heat back up on Microsoft's too.

    This impropriety and forced digital environment garbage being perpetuated by Microsoft is beyond annoying and unethical-------it is absolutely despicable!

    I second that. My computer hadn't been formatted in 4 years and it was taking 30 seconds to open internet explorer and 4-7 minutes to start the computer before I could web browse. I needed a fresh install. Little did I know updates were having such problems. I was receiving them fine. Now my computer after the fresh install has been "checking for updates" for the last 2 hours. I am wishing I bought a second hard drive before attempting to reinstall. I will try turning the automatic updating on but I am still not sure how that will fix if stuck on this "checking for updates" screen. As I recall an update must be downloaded first that directs windows update to the correct place to check for updates from.

    Only ONE of my HP (retired) Business Machines received & INSTALLED April, 2016's Updates.  I've run System File Checker repeatedly on all of my machines & the feed back is "Green".  Microsoft has a problem with delivering their updates, and having the updates get INSTALLED.  Well, it's been since Tuesday Afternoon & my updates are not even close to being installed!  Downloaded their little, "Hot Fix" for Updates and it turned out to be a 'blank'.  Usually by Wednesday morning, Microsoft has ironed out the 'Bugs'.  This is the worst Failure I've seen (go unresolved) yet!  Comments???    Regards, wfejnieh
