Windows 7 update not working

I have tried all the solutions on the forum but i still have the problem of windows 7 update not working.My computer has been shutdown for 6 weeks as i have been  away. On startup yesterday th probleme  started.

Go into Control Panel >> click on Windows Update item

Click on Change settings (at top left)

under Important updates, click on the down-arrow pull-down

Click on Never check for updates

press OK

Close the Control Panel window

Then Logoff and restart Windows fresh.

When ready, go back into Control Panel >> click on Windows Update item

Click on Change settings (at top left)

under Important updates, click on the down-arrow pull-down

Now make the selection that you need for automatic updates

press OK when done

Close the Control Panel window

Next, do a fresh visit to Windows Update. Kindly advise on results.

If this solves the original issue, kindly click on the MARK It (green) icon.

If this has helped, click on the green Yes  (Helpful) icon as appropos

    Your regarding, "Bill Gates" and "Microsoft" as "synonymous" is a personal opinion and not a "fact".  You further claim "Bill Gates" personally responded to Windows 7's update problems is your own fabrication.  If you have reference to Mr. Gates (alleged) comments; footnote your source.  Regards

    I have always regarded Bill Gates and Microsoft as synonymous and haven't heard, read or seen anything yet where he has dissociated himself from his creation.  Certainly a response from him explaining why a search on Google for Windows Update Problems generates 8.4 million responses for Win7, a further 7.1 million for Win8 and a magnificent 17.4 million for Windows 10.  Looking back XP and Vista can only manage 1.6 million apiece.

    I've lived with nearly all of M/S operating systems from DOS 3.0 and all its variations, DOS 4, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Vista, Win7 and Win8.  None ever gave any problems with updates until 7 and 8.

    Obviously there cannot be a unique solution to Win7 update problem otherwise there would not be 8.4 million entries being found by Google reporting or discussing the matter.  The solution I gave worked on my EeePC where neither the standard installation nor anything else on the net did.

    However if 'wfejinieh' still regards my solution as idiotic then I will quite happily install a freshly formatted hard disk and follow his step by step instructions to install Win7 and configure updates, including Office, using just standard M/S procedures.  And I don't regard leaving a PC powered up and on the net continuously for 12 or 24 hours in the hope it would fix itself as standard procedure.

    So, just to make sure I have the right idea:

    Turn off (disable) Windows Update.

    Reboot the computer.

    Turn on (enable) Windows Update and wait for it to search for updates.

    That's what I did, and it didn't solve the problem.

    Any other suggestions?

    Beg-your-pardon; but you sound like the type of person who tries any and all solutions offered by anyone who takes the time to "create" an answer and is unwilling (or incapable) of rationalizing how the steps they're initializing are correcting their software when they are following a tip from an anonymous author who claims they've discovered "The Solution"!  If the author of a step-by-step (easy) fix can not explain how each step he's taking contributes to restoring a corrupted application or correcting an  errant computer problem, I would conclude that person doesn't know what he's doing and following the advice offered will only make the problem worse.  Kind Regards
