Original Title**: Automatic updates for Security Updates for...  ...KB2518864, KB2572073, KB2633880, KB2656352  ...KEEP REPEATING AFTER SUCCESSFUL INSTALL**

My system information:  Windows XP Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3

I recently have had Automatic Updates appear for Security Updates for Microsoft .NET Framework...  ...KB2518864, KB2572073, KB2633880 and KB2656352.

I click install updates and I watch them install successfully.  And then they come right back wanting to install again and again and again.  UGH!!

I have read many forums and attempted many fixes, (even the Microsoft Mr. Fixit).  I am not too technical and refuse to attempt some of the fixes that had me going and making changes to the registry without knowing exactly what I am doing.  I know that making one small mistake in the registry can mess up my enitre system.

I need a simple solution to this annoying problem.  Please put the solution in laymen terms for the technically challenged.

Thank you in advance for any assistance with this.

    Hi,

You can also try performing clean boot and chekc if it helps:

NOTE: After you have finished troubleshooting, make sure you put back the computer to normal startup mode as suggested in step7 from the above KB article.

Azam, I followed every step from the link you provided but it is still not fixed.  Here is what I did:

    1. Reviewed installation history via Windows Update & these 4 updates had green icon.
    2. Examined installation log in Run %Windir%\KB2518864.log & unable to locate file.
    3. Then I followed the: How to troubleshoot the problem if the update was installed "If a green icon appears next to the update on the update Web site, and you have installed the update at least three times, use the following methods to troubleshoot the problem. Use each method in turn. If a method does not solve the problem, go on to the next method."
    4. Reset Windows Update componets automatically using Microsoft Fix it.
    5. Tried Default mode 1st with no luck.
    6. Tried Aggressive mode ~ after this ran ~ the yellow shield in the taskbar disappeared.
    7. Then I ran a McAfee scan without any detection of spyware, viruses or trojans.
    8. I then manually downloaded/installed the update for KB2518864.
    9. I then visited the Windows Update Web site & I was offered the update again.
    10. I then tried to install the update in Safe Mode but it wouldn't allow me to do so.
    11. The yellow shield is still not appearing in the taskbar which is good but now it's an issue of examining the installation log in Start, Run & typing %Windir%\KBnnnnnnn.log & unable to locate any of these 4 update files, (nnnnnnn represents the number of the Knowledge Base article about the update).
    12. The next step says to Contact Microsoft Product Support for help.

Any other thoughts at this point are greatly appreciated before doing #12.
