Why would Microsoft remove the beautiful Aero Glass effect and replace it with flat colors and cheesy translucency?

No Aero Glass is an absolute deal breaker for me.  There is no way I'm installing those ugly flat windows on my desktop.  The transparency that is there which lacks blurring is an ugly joke.  On a scale from one to ten of how upset I am over this... I'm like 1000000000 seriously considering buying a Mac out of pure out-of-my-mind crazy spite.  I cannot even express in words how upset I am over this.  There is absolutely zero chance that I will ever install Windows 8 or Blue or any another Windows operating system onto my computer until Aero Glass is returned or something more beautiful is included.

I am not developing a single app for Windows until Glass is added back.  For my next phone... I was considering Windows Phone 8.  I even stopped by and played with one at Verizon the other day.  No glass?  I'm not wasting my time looking for mods.  Windows Blue is going to be very sad, because I am ditching Windows permanently if glass is not added back, like now, like before I have to spend a single additional second trying to find workarounds on the internet.  Yep.  I can feel an Android Phone in my future, and a sudden love for Java, which I currently hate, coming on.  Feels like the incredible .NET is being abandoned too.  Guess I better go submit my resume to Google.

       Just out of curiosity, what do you think is the difference in todays "low powered and under specified" desktop systems as compared to the same type of desktop systems in 2009 when Vista Aero was released? I would argue that todays systems have significantly more processing power than the same class of systems from 2009. Even the small desktop systems ($300-$400 as in my original post) today are capable of handling a rich UI, which users seem to still want.

    It's simple, and it apears you missed the point. How many icons (read shortcuts) can I have on the Windows 7 desktop and/or pinned? How many fit on the new Metro Start screen? The example is very realistic if you consider how Windows 7 is actually used in the field.

     

    Sorry to disagree again.

    so what is keeping them from using the desktop shortcuts on w8? Nothing. That's a non issue.

    So why not give the user a choice...do they want the ugly confusing metro with all its hidden options or do they want the look of windows 7. If youre thinking well thatd just make the installation take more hdd space why not have the user decide at the installation stage and only install either metro or aero.

    Everybody i know who has tried windows 8 hates it and has either paid somebody or asked me to put their copy of windows 7 on it for them. Which is also a pain to do due to some of the newer machines havin gpt partitions.

    1 os for desktop and 1 os for tablets...or at least metro for tablets aero for desktop.

    Plus there are some programs that are a pain to get working on windows 8. Ive heard visual studio wprks fine for c++ etc but that xna is hard to get working

    Business users should be using the desktop, not the Modern UI, and in any case, the Modern UI tiles can be dragged around into any order the user wishes.

    The average home user is looking for cheap which is inevitably low powered and under specified.

    The choice:

    1. Fancy Aero graphics which appeared quite late in the game with Vista, and which many bemoaned because it cut into valuable screen real estate..
    2. Video and general screen performance..

    Since the intro of Windows 7, Microsoft have been moving to better performance on smaller. less well specified machines: A welcome change, I would have thought..
