No Aero Glass is an absolute deal breaker for me. There is no way I'm installing those ugly flat windows on my desktop. The transparency that is there which lacks blurring is an ugly joke. On a scale from one to ten of how upset I am over this... I'm like 1000000000 seriously considering buying a Mac out of pure out-of-my-mind crazy spite. I cannot even express in words how upset I am over this. There is absolutely zero chance that I will ever install Windows 8 or Blue or any another Windows operating system onto my computer until Aero Glass is returned or something more beautiful is included.
I am not developing a single app for Windows until Glass is added back. For my next phone... I was considering Windows Phone 8. I even stopped by and played with one at Verizon the other day. No glass? I'm not wasting my time looking for mods. Windows Blue is going to be very sad, because I am ditching Windows permanently if glass is not added back, like now, like before I have to spend a single additional second trying to find workarounds on the internet. Yep. I can feel an Android Phone in my future, and a sudden love for Java, which I currently hate, coming on. Feels like the incredible .NET is being abandoned too. Guess I better go submit my resume to Google.

It's simple, and it apears you missed the point. How many icons (read shortcuts) can I have on the Windows 7 desktop and/or pinned? How many fit on the new Metro Start screen? The example is very realistic if you consider how Windows 7 is actually used in the field.

most used applications should be pinned to the desktop taskbar anyway, so I fail to see how that example is realistic. it takes me the same time to open any application on w8 or w7.

if you say that you need to scroll the start screen, you'd also need to scroll the start menu for other programs... why do you think that this is faster? it isn't.
as for the average home user, most of them have the funniest reasons to say they don't like it. I especially like the ones that say "W8 is **** because it doesn't have the same games like it did before". really? also, most people just go towards the peer pressure thing. if the interwebs says it sucks, they believe it and give it no chance nor any attempt to learn how it works. it then becomes cool to hate. also very visible on these forums is people being very vocal about "missing functionality" that they simply haven't bothered to try to find. "this is shiiiiiiit" they say. then you point out where things are, and they either don't come back or find another thing to complain about, as they feel their pride is hurt.
its a very interesting sociological phenomenon...someone should study it.
.. And functionality on the smaller machines being used by consumers these days requires that resource consuming effects like Aero are not used..
I must be the only one that, when using the desktop, doesn't notice much of a difference on how windows look. incredible how much people react on minor changes of rounded corners and transparency, instead of focussing on the actual functionality.
