This program is holding some virus like qualities. You are not allowed to install a free version only a paid one, when the program sneaks in through something else it'll force you to see an error everytime you turn on your computer.

Nice try Craig. I found a fix and felt it was important to post; http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program\_install\_and\_uninstall click on this link and click run, let it troubleshoot for you but you select the files to delete (something along the lines of that, it was the second option) after that is done it will show you guessed it "StrongVault" or "Strong Hold" click on that and let it uninstall and clean up. Restart your computer you will be good to go.

The link provided does not install anything I checked. It is also through Microsoft. Let me know if this helps!

Last Craig, cut your **** if when your program is searched in google and the first link is to uninstall you seemingly screwed up. First time posting thought I would help. Gabe.

I suddenly found this "strongvault" program on my computer after installing "VLC Media Player".  It has caused havoc.  I now have error messages when I am trying to open important programs for mmy business.  It has also caused a fatal error and has stopped "SOS messaging from working.  Anybody know what I can do about this.  Why don't the people at "Strongvault" or Stronghold, or whoever they are have a large box asking whether you want to install their program before allowing it to just try to commandeer your system??? Some programs now tell me the data cannot be found and has been moved to a different location.  I believe this may have legal ramifications, since the moved information is propriety and confidential... I need immediate help before I contact the legal channels for this mess.  I hope the folks at microsoft can help!

We do not do anything that would cause files from other programs to be moved or deleted. It sounds as though the messages you are seeing are referring to the Strongvault uninstaller not being found, which is part of the Windows installer glitch others have reported in this thread. Use Microsoft's FixIt app first to try and resolve the problem:

<Removed>

If you are still having problems after trying both of these, please contact me directly at craig[at]stronghold.com with as many details as possible on what you are experiencing.

Thanks.

Craig

Hi Penney,

Which version of Windows are you using?

You can do a system restore to before you deleted the program:

For XP

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

For Vista

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-is-System-Restore

For Windows 7

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore

Also, if this is the Strong Vault you are talking about, here is instructions on how to remove it:

http://strongvaultfree.com/pages/uninstall

Hope this helps!

Here's a response...put out a Beta and test it rigorously. This is a problem which would be discovered in several minutes. Once again...are you serious? I would certainly say there is a reason to "get nasty" with you.

Unfortunately, the problem being reported here only happens to a small percentage of users (we have hundreds of thousands of users) and has been extremely difficult to reproduce in-house. The following link is a Google search result that shows not only how common the bug is in other apps (including, ironically, Symantec Anti-Virus), but you'll also notice that for all the solutions on how to resolve the problem once it occurs, there isn't anything on how to prevent it in the first place:

Did you test the installers of the companies you are paying for installs? It sure seems like that's the common denominator throughout this thread. I never heard of you until I clicked NO in response to a question about wanting to install you and then spent an hour trying to get you uninstalled.

Dane, do you still have a copy of the installer that originally installed us? If so, could you send it to me at craig[at]stronghold.com? If not, any details you could send me regarding what program you were trying to install, where you found it, etc. would be extremely helpful. We should only be installed if you request us to be installed. If that's not the case then I need to be able to identify which distributor is causing problems so I can address the issue and stop it from happening. Thanks.

I don't still have the installer, I get rid of those pretty quickly after install so they aren't forgotten and cluttering things up. FWIW, while I was installing a few things to replace things that didn't quite work right when i moved to Win 8, I'm pretty certain it was a video converter that I was installing trying to find something to convert FLV to MP4. i installed about a half dozen of them that didn't actually get the job done and don't really recall the names of any of them.

No problem, I figured it was a long shot. The fact that it was installed on Windows 8 helps me out though...we haven't tested on Windows 8 yet and our distributors should not be installing us on Windows 8 machines. I'll make sure that gets taken care of immediately.
