Call of duty 4 crashes in Windows 8.

My COD4PC has stopped working once upgraded to Windows 8, the error I am receiving is caused by a Punk buster malfuction, caused by a faulty module named "PBCL.DLL" in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty 4\pb" folder, playing in non punkbuster servers will run fine, then when I go into PB enabled servers the game will result in a crash. *Worked fine in Windows 7.

    Thanks GravityForce, but have been there done that.  As I said, you can select ANY compatibility mode and try to run the game.  But always, the game loads to the menu and you can only make a selections, e.g. to "Join Server" via moving the cursor with the tab or arrow keys.  The mouse no longer works.  So, when you get to the next screen to choose the server you want to join, there is no way to get down to that portion of the screen and select it manually.  So, you can't even run the game to see if it will work in one of these compatibility modes.  And, even if you could, not sure you could play anyway...if the mouse is disabled for some reason, can't really play the game.

    I am unfortunately coming to this conclusion...

    there is no working fix. it will never work until evenbalance updates punkbuster or Microsoft does a compatibility fix for it.

     

    I know they are just trying to help, but I wish people that don't have win8 and cod4 would stop posting fixes that don't work.

    Ok gys I think a got a fix for the problem.. Just folow the steps and and I hope it will work.. For me et worked only out..All the other solutions didnt work out.. so try this and tell me if its work..I hope you can enjoy the game then how i do :) ( sorry for bad english ) ;) 

    -Open RUN

    -Type in Services.msc

    -Find PnkbstrA & PnkBstrB

    in the second tab over on the top tick (properties) and go to log on tab then "Allow service to interact with desktop"

    -Go to game shortcut

    -Properties

    -Compatibility tab

    -Tick the box "Run as Administrator"

    -Right click -> Properties

    -Compatibility ->"Run As Admin"

    -Run Game

    if you do not find PnkBstrB, you'll have to uninstall pb with "pbsvc" (find it in the game folder) and update it with "PBSetup"
