Call of duty 4 crashes in Windows 8.

My COD4PC has stopped working once upgraded to Windows 8, the error I am receiving is caused by a Punk buster malfuction, caused by a faulty module named "PBCL.DLL" in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty 4\pb" folder, playing in non punkbuster servers will run fine, then when I go into PB enabled servers the game will result in a crash. *Worked fine in Windows 7.

I guess you upload the iw3mp.exe that solves this problem with Windows 7, but with Windows 8 is different and your solution doesn't work.

Well, I did that you said, and then I enabled "stereo mix". It seems work.

To enable stereo mix:

Go to Control Panel - Sound - Recording tab.

Right click and mark "show disabled devices"

You should see "stereo mix", just enable it and go play.

Now the game works, but in servers with PB it crash, so I understand that it is an incompatibility between Win8 and PB.

Any ideas?

Hi...

I know how frustrating it can be not being able to play an awesome game like MW 4......I've been there done that!!

Be "more" patient....I will find a fix as I did with many of my personal games........

go into the game's directory and open a folder named "main"

right click on the video folder cut and paste it on your desktop or any safe location of your choice**.....**.run the game again!

If it does not work, put back the video folder to it's original place!

Hi GravityForce - I did as you suggested above and it did give me limited results. First, I was able to get in and play on a cracked server, but only for about 30 minutes. However, when I tried a regular server, there was no improvement - got back to the iw3mp.exe error and/or blank screen (requiring a reboot). I do appreciate you working to find a solution. Thanks.

Hello!

Try to update bink video tools.

Download and install this programhttp://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm
- open or run the program....when installation is completed, run the game
Or back to old school.....
1. go to the dircetory and select iwmp3
2. right click and select properties
3. click on the capability tab
4. tick the checkbox that says Run this program in capability mode for
5. click the windows option box and choose **windows 7 (**or try other windows Vista/XP etc....if not successful)
6. tick the checkbox that says Run this program as an adminisrtator click Apply and Ok
Run the game...
