How do I change the settings for my Windows 8 touchpad? Scrolling and clicking problems.

I have an Acer Aspire V5-571P and I don't like how the mouse works.

I want to change the touchpad so that it doesn't click on anything I accidentally double-tap twice. (I only want a click to register when i actually click the mousepad)

I also want it so that when I "2 finger scroll" down a website or through menus it goes the same direction instead of inverted (right now, i swipe up to go down and left to go right, i want 2 finger down to go down and right to go right)

I couldn't find it under the control panel and mouse settings. The only thing i saw was double clicking.

Hi guys! I bought a new acer aspire V5 touch yesterday and was so frustrated by the touchpad. Not only did I hate that the windows charms kept appearing when I was using the touchpad, but it zoomed in and out, and the bottom-up scrolling all had be annoyed.

I was able to fix all of these problems through the control panel.

To fix the edge swipe (try this if the windows charms appear when you don't want them to):

Control Panel- Mouse Properties- Elan- Options - One Finger (tab) - Edge Swipe - untick 'enable'

To fix the zooming in and out function (note that this is just for the touchpad and you will still be able to zoom in and out using the touch screen):

Control Panel- Mouse Properties- Elan- Options- Multi-finger (tab)- Zooming- untick 'enable'

To fix the bottom-up scrolling:

Control Panel- Mouse Properties- Elan- Options- Multi-finger (tab)- Scrolling- untick 'reverse'

I'm also really hating the two fingers needed to scroll using the touchpad so I might try to see if that is able to be changed as well.

I had the same issue and managed to get Elan working but the only thing that does work is the reverse scrolling... my reverse option is greyed out so I can't untick it and it drives me nuts.... please help

I found the answer in another thread!! YAY it works for me now.

This is what the answer was:

"Go to the 3-rd tab - "Additional" - and choose the last option to the left - "Gesture Effect"; there change the setting from "ZoomPerfect" to "Microsoft modern touchpad experience"; and then go back to the 2nd tab (Multi-Finger) and choose "Scrolling" again, and voila - now you will be able to change all the settings here, including the "Reverse" setting!"

Why they hid it here I don't know--or why not provide link to this when trying to find it the way we did it on Windows 7? Why not tell us this in HELP? Or here in in Forums???

That feature was added in W8.1.1. This thread started about W8.0.

Re: Help. Good question. Notice how it seems how all local Help has been removed? So, let's see what you would have found online.   Press Win+F1 and enter mouse touchpad.   Wow! 60 hits?  Turns out though that this search is doing an OR logic query which means that adding terms does not refine your results but just makes them vaguer.   Might be useful if you didn't have a clue what you were looking for but in this case we know exactly what we are looking for. So, instead of using Windows Help and Support I suggest we switch to BING which will at least do some AND logic queries for us...

I have a Toshiba satellite. I believe I may have started this post...

suddenly, my mousepad stopped scrolling with the 2 fingers, it won't scroll at all. there have been no updates. I go to settings and it won't open at all. I tried all the things listed here. I have no "elan" I have nothing. I am really frustrated with this dumb thing- can anyone please help? why did it just stop working?

Unless you are also pridefc182 it doesn't look like it.   ; )

Did you see my earlier suggestion to a poster to use msinfo32 to find out what you do have? That would apply to you too.   ; }

Also, take a look at your User Guide. It may be that you have accidentally disabled your Touchpad completely. E.g. look for a keyboard shortcut which could toggle that off and on. If you need help interpreting your User Guide please post the necessary details about your model which would let someone find and download your User Guide.

That would be a problem but probably unrelated except for the way it would prevent you from checking if you have a "Precision Touchpad" the way the article suggested.   Most related help about that will be found referring to having a problem accessing the Store. If you need more help it would probably be a good idea to start your own thread with your own details about that.

However, you wouldn't have to use PC Settings to get into Mouse Properties. Use the Control Panel for that.   E.g. press Win-x P and start typing Mouse.  See what you can find that way?
