How do I resolve error 651 on a new Windows 8 installation?

The easiest way I found to fix the problem was amazingly simple.  I bought a MAC and I don't have any more MS problems, this fix I would imagine will last as long as I own the MAC.  I'm sick and tired of spending countless hours and aggravation trying to solve MS problems.  The transition to MAC was painless and I'm not spending countless hours solving MS problems anymore.  After all what is MS most famous for; drum roll, their never ending problems.  Hurt them where it counts and see how they like it when people stop buying their products.  There's noting worse than paying your hard earned money for a product that continually gives you problems.  Buy a MAC.

HP Customer Service was great by the way helping me to resolve the MS issue, after trying everything in their playbook, we wiped the OS system and I had to reload everything.   Thanks to HP for all of their great customer support!  MS would help for a fee of course, HP solved the problem due to their great customer service, MS customer service is non existent.

I have two Lap top's and two desktops all with Microsoft 8.1; with MS you're always fixing the latest operating system and software problems because they're MS is trying to fix all of the problems with the last MS OS failure's.  I've spent untold hours trying to fix problems.  With 8.1 I'm having printer problems with a Canon Printer's, the problems are never ending. Not to mention the error code 651, it's never ending with MS.  

I found a sure fire way to fix the problems with MS, buy a Mac and your problems are solved.  All my PC's with MS operating systems are almost new and I'm having nothing but problems.  I bought a Mac and no more problems, I'm going to replace all of my MS JUNK, you're always spending valuable time trying to fix the latest MS problems.  MS never gets anything right, that's what they're famous for.

 Again if we all stop paying good money for crapy products that don't work, they'll go out of business or take care of their customers.  MS has the worse customer service, maybe more to the point no customer service. Their answer is for a fee, we'll help you repair the junk you bought from MS.

Why do people keep buying things with a track record of not working as designed.  Buy Mac's and get your money's worth and the Mac's actually work as engineered.  Buying PC's is idiocy, when you know the MS track record of problem after problem.  The definition of crazy is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.  

Rather than producing a product that actually works like a Mac, people keeping buying PC's and spending valuable time, resources and not to mention aggregation.  Trying to repair something you paid your hard earned money for and should have the reasonable expectation and assurance MS products actually work.  Buy Mac's from now on, problem solved, no more aggravations and spending your valuable time being in a place like this trying to find answers to yet more MS problems until the next one comes at you.  Enough is enough, the cost in man hours trying to keep MS working is the definition of insanity.

I could not agree with you more and I have gone Mac. I was concerned about Excel Macros but they run fine on Mac and the other Office packages are also no problem. All in all the change over was not difficult from PC and the back up support including one to ones has been impressive. I only live 15 KMs from an Apple store and 97% of repairs (all Apple products) are carried out at the store while you wait. You have to book an appointment but normally the wait is only 2 hours and go for a coffee and your repair will be done as you enjoy a coffee. Much better than having to send a PC away to a repair centre and wait 10 days. Apple is going to get better and Microsoft is just on a non reversible downward slope

I understand that you have issues connecting to network from Windows 8. I will definitely assist you regarding this.

-          Do you have any third party security software installed on your computer?

Perform the following troubleshooting methods:

Method 1:

Start the computer in “Safe mode with Networking” and then check how it works. Follow these steps to start the computer to safe mode.

a.       Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.

b.      In the ‘Run’ windows type ’MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’.

c.       Click the ‘Boot’ tab.

d.      Under ‘Boot Options’, select the ‘Safe Boot’ option.

e.      Choose “Network” option below the Safe boot check box:

f.        Click OK and then restart your PC.

He he he. Did this - Safe Mode yep. Windows attempted to load Windows on-line help - oh internet problems - try resolving - "Network diagnostics cannot be run in safe mode"

Toshiba A100 wired connection, Totally clean install, trying to evaluate Win 8.1 for a local school to decide if they should upgrade. Just taken them from XP to Win7. Recommendation regarding Win8.1 - NO!!! Have wiped it back to Win7 twice and reinstalled twice - same probs.

I've had my PC w/Windows 8 since 12/12 & recently experienced a limited connectivity issue & i am wired in directly & found error code 651 also & don't know how to fix it since HP didn't send a disc along w/the PC...so what now. Trying  "Refresh your PC w/o effecting any files" but it's taking forever & will this fix it?

I got my computer at the same time as you got yours. I had no bother until I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and sometime after that I got the 651 error code. I tried most suggested things but they did not work. I found the problem was to do with disk optimization on the SSD and Norton 360 was coming up with an error. I had to go through Norton trouble shooting which meant a new install. After the new install I ran from within Norton the registry clean up and the problem disappeared and has not appeared again.

If you are using Norton you could try what I did. Hope it sorts the annoying problem out. Not that it matters but my laptop was a Sony Ultrabook.
